Back in the day, I got in trouble for a comment on a colleague's beautiful smile. You see, they had a gap in the upper teeth, the one called a diastema. In my culture, the diastema is considered a mark of beauty and is said to enhance a smile. I had a lot of explaining to do for an honest mistake on something someone was very insecure about. Such mistakes can often be regarded as unforgivable when touching on children.
