Celebrating The World Breastfeeding Week 2023
Let’s make breastfeeding and work, work!
The goal of World Breastfeeding Week is to increase public awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding for both Mothers and their children. "Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working Parents" is the focus of this year's World Breastfeeding Week,
Additionally, World Breastfeeding Week ensures that countries can take action to improve maternal and infant health to further the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. To promote the health of babies, it advocates alterations to legislation and infant feeding procedures.
According to the WHO, breastfeeding could prevent 8,20,000 deaths of children under the age of five per year. It is essential in this situation to emphasize the value of nursing for infants.
??The significance of breastfeeding
Breastfeeding plays a vital role in a newborn life as it contains antibodies that help protect against many common childhood illnesses. For the first several months after birth, it gives a newborn every vitamin they require. Children who are nursed do better on IQ tests, are less likely to develop diabetes later in life, and are less likely to be fat or overweight, according to the WHO. Doctors have shown that breastfeeding women have a decreased chance of developing ovarian and breast cancer. The WHO advises starting nursing during the first hour of a child's birth and exclusively breastfeeding newborns for the first six months of life.

??2023 World Breastfeeding Week Theme
The focus of this year's theme, "Let's make breastfeeding and work, work!" will be on breastfeeding and employment, offering a tactical chance to promote fundamental maternity rights that support breastfeeding, such as maternity leave for at least 18 weeks, ideally more than 6 months, and workplace accommodations after this time.
??History
To raise awareness about the advantages of breastfeeding, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was established in 1991. The inaugural World Breastfeeding Week was observed a year later. The 2016 World Breastfeeding Week-Sustainable Improvement Goals campaign was in line with these goals.
