Celebrating Women's History Month at Stony Brook Medicine

March is Women’s History Month, and I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the exceptional women who have shaped our healthcare system and continue to drive us forward.?

From pioneering medical breakthroughs to providing compassionate care at the bedside, women have played a pivotal role in every aspect of healthcare delivery. We celebrate icons like Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African?American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States.

Here at Stony Brook Medicine, standing on the foundation of these trailblazers are extraordinary women who embody the spirit of excellence, compassion and innovation. They are our nurses, doctors, researchers, administrators and caregivers who work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of our?communities.

I watched our?video tribute to International Women’s Day?this past Friday and found it incredibly inspiring. Featuring 58 women throughout all areas of Stony Brook Medicine, it filled me with immense pride for our healthcare system and the remarkable women at all levels who play pivotal roles in moving our organization forward. Please take a few minutes to watch it — I’m sure you will feel the same sense of pride and admiration for the outstanding women who contribute to our organization’s success.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, please join me and take this opportunity to recognize and appreciate the significant achievements of women in healthcare.
