On this International Women’s Day, I take a moment to reflect on the incredible women who have played a significant role in my life. Like many, my earliest influences were my mother and my teachers. They set the foundation for my values, resilience, and curiosity. Growing up in India, surrounded by a close-knit community and family, I was fortunate to be influenced by many remarkable women—some of whom I am still connected with today.
As my journey unfolded over 33 years of a dynamic career, I encountered extraordinary women at every stage—at home, in the workplace, and in my wider professional and social circles. Whether they were my wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunts, cousins, managers, clients, colleagues, or team members, these women demonstrated unique leadership qualities. Some of these qualities I may not have recognised then, but in hindsight, they have played a crucial role in shaping my success.
Resilience
My career has been anything but linear. I have taken on diverse roles, worked in different industries, and adapted to new environments repeatedly. This ability to navigate change and uncertainty, I realise, comes from the two women who have been my pillars of strength—my mother and my wife.
During my first 18 years, I lived in nine different villages, and over 13 communities, and attended multiple schools. The ability to adjust and embrace new beginnings was ingrained in me early on. Over the past 25 years, my wife and I have lived in more than nine countries—sometimes for short durations, and sometimes for longer. While I was out building my career, she took charge of our family, managing every new country, every new home, and every new culture we found ourselves in. Sometimes, she had to make sacrifices—putting her career on hold, leaving behind her social circles, and embracing the unknown.
Their resilience has taught me to stay strong in the face of adversity, to keep my focus on what truly matters, and to always move forward with determination.
Determination
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with incredibly determined women. These women have balanced high-pressure corporate roles while managing their families, pursuing doctorates, writing books, and travelling across multiple countries. We all know the challenges that come with such a journey—it requires immense discipline and sacrifice.
These women have worked tirelessly, sleeping only a few hours each night to pursue their ambitions while ensuring their families thrive. Their determination to achieve the best for themselves and their loved ones has left a lasting impression on me. Observing these women has reinforced the importance of setting clear goals and pursuing them relentlessly.
Selflessness and Letting Go
Many women have exemplified selflessness and the power of letting go. Our mothers, sisters, aunts, mothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, friends, and wife often forgive our mistakes, overlook our flaws, and bear the brunt of our shortcomings. Despite the pain they may feel, they choose to nurture relationships, fostering positivity and growth in those around them.
Teachers, whom I have always regarded as the most selfless individuals, further reinforce this lesson. They dedicate their time and energy to shaping young minds, often without expecting anything in return. Similarly, mentors and managers guide and coach us, helping us navigate challenges and give back to our teams and communities.
The greatest learning from selflessness and letting go is the ability to foster strong and lasting relationships. It has taught me the power of empathy, patience, and forgiveness. In the workplace, it has helped me become a better leader by focusing on collective success rather than individual gain. In life, it has reminded me that true strength lies in kindness and understanding.
A Tribute to the Women in My Life
This International Women’s Day, I celebrate and honour all the women who have played a significant role in my life. Each has contributed to my personal and professional growth, imparting invaluable lessons that continue to guide me.
To all the incredible women out there—thank you for your resilience, determination, and selflessness. I remain committed to learning from you, supporting your success, and contributing to a better society.
Happy International Women’s Day!
