Celebrating Women Tackling Some Society’s Biggest Challenges on International Women’s Day

As we mark International Women’s Day this year, we celebrate the trailblazing achievements and we toast the success of so many women around the world. But even as we celebrate these accomplishments, we can’t lose sight of the work we still have in front of us to level the playing field. In fact, the pandemic has laid bare the full depths of this challenge. We are seeing a K-shaped recovery in what has unfortunately become a K-shaped economy – and women are once again bearing the brunt of it. Business has a huge role to play in expanding opportunity for women – and it starts within each of our organizations.

Through the Citi Impact Fund, we use our own capital to make equity investments in startups that are addressing five societal challenges: workforce development, financial capability, physical and social infrastructure, sustainability and access to capital and economic opportunity. These companies are doing incredible work that has the potential to make our communities more equitable and sustainable, and the majority are founded by women and minorities. In some cases both!

I am happy to highlight the women behind four of these companies and spotlight the work they’re doing to make a real impact. Meet our women Citi Impact Fund recipients:

Erica Plybeah, Founder of MedHaul, came up with the idea for her business after struggling to find a way to get her grandmother, who is confined to a wheelchair, to her doctors’ appointments. Today, MedHaul helps provide non-emergency healthcare transportation options to often overlooked populations across the Southeast. Every year, nearly 4 million Americans with chronic conditions miss their medical appointments due to transportation issues. Particularly for low-income and/or older patients with diabetes, asthma, and arthritis, this can mean the difference between managing chronic conditions at home and ending up in the emergency room. MedHaul provides a cloud-based, mobile-optimized marketplace that automates the transit management process and links healthcare providers with specialized transportation services.

I am deeply passionate about empowering women in business, a commitment inspired by one of the most influential figures in my life—my mom. She founded Meridian, one of the top pathology OBGYN cancer research laboratories in the country. Her determination, intelligence, and compassion have not only saved lives but have also paved the way for women in science and business. Growing up watching her break barriers and redefine possibilities showed me the profound impact that supportive, empowering environments can have on women striving to make their mark. Her journey instills in me a fervent desire to support and uplift women in their entrepreneurial and professional endeavors. I believe that when we empower women, we ignite change that resonates through communities and industries. Let’s continue to champion the incredible potential of women in business and beyond. Let’s goooooooooooooo! ??

CEO of Citigroup, Mrs. Jane Fraser, theft, fraud, threats, intimidation and unfortunately also mockery were the services that CIFS Citibank gave me during more than 23 years of corruption; I require your intervention.

Wow that’s powerful mam but your company has NOT BEEN EMPATHETIC TOWARDS ME AS A Citibank “PRIORITY “ client at all! I have sat at this gas station for 7 and a half days now because I can’t access my account or my money at all to be able to get home ! I have 4 children as well and I am sick and tired of hearing the same things from the same representatives I spoke with to resolve this issue ! Also, I had my water and electricity cut off at home because I have no money because Citibank does not allow me to access my hard earned single mother of four barely making ends meet of a paycheck, but it’s MY MONEY AND WE ARE TIRED OF SLEEPING IN YHE CAR AND HUNGRY AND ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL AT THIS POINT AND IM ABOUT TO HAVE MY PHONE CUT OFF ALSO FOR BILL BEING LATE BECAUSE OF CITIBANK AND THE EMPATHY THEY DO NOT REALLY CARE FOR IM ALSO ON THE VERGE OF USING THE LAST FEW MOMENTS OF MY PHONE TO CALL THE WHITE HOUSE OR PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES AND LET THEM KNOW HOW TERRIBLE YOU HAVE BEEN TREATING YOUR CUSTOMERS AND ALSO GET AN ATTORNEY FOR THIS IF ITS NOT FIXED BY TODAY OR TOMORROW AND THATS ON LIFE I WILL CALL PRESIDENT TRUMP AND WHOEVER ELSE I WILL FIND TO HELP MY PITIFUL PITIFUL SITUATION ALL BECAUSE OF TRUSTING THE WRONG BANK WITH MY MONEY
