So what better way to mark International Women’s Day 2023 than by sitting down with Mev and Hana to learn more about their meteoric rise and what got them into the influencer game in the first instance.?

Where does your love of basketball come from? How did you turn this interest into a social media presence with such a large following?

Hana:?I’ve always liked basketball, it’s been the sport I’ve played since I was a little kid, so it always excited me to watch basketball too. Basketball has pretty much been my life forever, and I don’t know what I would do without it.?

Mev:?I’ve always been into sports from a young age, and I played basketball growing up. I watched and played the sport as a hobby, and watching it become my profession has become really cool. Hana was always on Twitter, so I decided to give it a shot. Tweeting my sports takes has become a daily thing.

What are your goals for your podcast? Did you expect the early success you've achieved?

Hana:?I’m so excited about what we’re going to do with the podcast, I have so many goals and want to reach for the stars. I want me and Mev to grow our reach and inspire other women who love sports to try and find a voice in this community as well. I honestly did not expect this much success so early on, and I hope it goes up from here.

Mev:?I definitely want to make it big on YouTube, it’s always been a dream of mine. I’ve been watching other basketball YouTubers for a long time, and I see myself existing in that community. I definitely expected the early success because of Twitter. Between my sister and I, we have a lot of followers and knew our reach would translate to our podcast.

How does it actually feel being “an influencer”? The good, the bad, the unusual?

Hana:?It feels weird most times. It’s cool having so many people watch our videos because I’ve been so used to just talking about basketball with my family and friends, but now I can talk about it with so many others who share the same passion. Although it’s fun sometimes, it does get hard to manage the haters and not let what they say get to you. But it does get easier by the day and I’ve learned no matter what you do, there will always be some negativity; you’ve just got to do your own thing.?

Mev:?It’s been good for the most part, I love seeing tons of people engaging with me on a daily basis. But it gets hard sometimes because of hate comments, all you can do is ignore them.

What have you learned from the experience that you’d wish you’d known starting out? Or what would you advise other aspiring young women like you?

Mev:?I’ve learned that it’s very hard to be a woman in this community because many misogynistic people won’t give you credit no matter what you do. But, you’ve got to push through, and I advise women to be confident and do their thing; keep being great!

Hana:?At first, I didn’t realize how many people hate seeing women talking about sports. It made me feel insecure at times, but I always try to not let the haters get to me. I tell myself I am brave, and putting myself out there is the hardest thing to do, that I should be proud of myself no matter what.

What’s it like working with the team at SGG Media? And how did that relationship come about?

Mev:?It’s great, everyone is very professional and helpful. They all have our best interests in?mind and?want to do what’s right for our future. We are very excited to continue working with everyone for the years to come!

Hana:?It’s been fab?so far! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming. We all work so well together and they care so much about our future, trying to make us the best we can be. We are very grateful we get to work with hardworking and great individual people.
