Why We Need Women in the Construction Industry

International Women's Day provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of women across various fields. In recent years, there has been a notable, welcome shift towards inclusivity and gender diversity in traditionally male-dominated industries, and the construction sector is no exception.

The importance of women in the construction industry cannot be overstated, their expertise, skills, leadership and contributions consistently enriching the field. And so, at Lion Containers, we are committed to inclusion within our business practices.

The construction industry has a widely known history of being male-dominated. A 2018 report conducted by the Women into Construction CIC found that women previously made up only 11% of the current construction workforce and 1% of workers onsite. However, improvement within the sector has resulted in women now making up 15.3% of the industry ( Construction News , 2023). Whilst there are evident improvements in sector equality still to be achieved, these current advancements demonstrate that women continue to challenge stereotypes that construction is men’s work.?
