Celebrating WE RESTART Charity: Catalysts of Change and Creativity

WE RESTART Charity , a dynamic and transformative charity, has rapidly become a beacon of hope and creativity in London. With a mission to inspire, educate, and support communities through art and sustainable practices, WE RESTART has launched several innovative projects and programmes that have garnered widespread acclaim. This article highlights their significant achievements, ongoing initiatives, and future plans that promise to continue their impactful journey.

WE RESTART's inaugural public art project, the #savingbutterflies sculpture, has recently been installed at Union Park in Wembley. This captivating artwork designed by Aylal A. H. not only enhances the beauty of the area but also raises vital awareness about butterfly conservation.

The project began in Chelsea, where children from World's End Place and Lots Road (Big Local) participated in workshops led by CAUKIN Studio and build the sculpture. Supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Mount Anvil and Inhabit Egis , the sculpture was initially installed in the Piazza at World's End. Three months later, the sculpture made its way to Wembley, in Brent. Soon, it will be joined by another piece, "a flower," created by asylum-seeking children, forming a powerful and evocative display.

The sculptures will remain in Wembley until COP29 in November. "The sculpture serves as a powerful symbol of transformation and renewal, echoing the charity's core values," says Cristina Cellini Antonini, head of fundraising at WE RESTART. "We hope the sculpture will attract visitors from all over, sparking conversations about the importance of preserving our natural environment." The project has been supported by Wembley Park Retail and Brent Council.

ArtVentures Clubs: Nurturing Young Creativity

In Brent, WE RESTART runs the ArtVentures afternoon clubs for children. These clubs, funded by Young Brent Foundation , provide a safe and stimulating environment where young minds can explore their creativity through various art forms. By fostering artistic expression, these clubs help children develop critical thinking skills, boost their confidence, and offer a constructive outlet for their energies. The positive impact on the children and their families has been profound, making these clubs a cherished part of the community.

Art Cafe Programme: A Refuge for Asylum Seekers

Understanding the challenges faced by asylum seekers, WE RESTART initiated the Art Cafe programme in Wembley. This programme offers a welcoming space where asylum seekers can engage in creative activities, build community connections, and find solace through art. The Art Cafe has become a vital support system, helping participants navigate their new lives with hope and resilience.

A.R.I.A. Hub in Camden: A Centre for Innovation

The A.R.I.A. Hub in Camden stands as a testament to WE RESTART's commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration. This centre provides artists and creatives with resources, mentorship, and a platform to develop their ideas. The hub has already produced remarkable projects, driving social change and promoting cultural diversity. Among artists, Sujata Setia, winner of the Sony Photography Award 2024 (Creative) and Maisson Hassan, former UN Ambassador for Sudan, with the project “Sudan: Stolen Dreams”, a series of mixed-media collages on canvas exploring the complex history and ongoing struggles of Sudan. Through a compelling visual narrative, the project will delve into the nation's history, highlighting the resilience of its people while acknowledging the historical tensions, particularly the repeated shattering of hope for democracy by military coups since independence. Central to this narrative is the crucial role of Sudanese women. The collages honour their continuous efforts to secure not only democratic rights for all, but also inclusivity and equality for themselves. Their fight for women's rights adds another layer of complexity to Sudan's story, showcasing their unwavering determination in the face of adversity. The project was displayed during Refugee Week and it has been supported by Camden Council and City of Sanctuary UK .
