Fostering an interest in STEM careers

The Walgreens business resource group InclusiveIT recently partnered with non-profit organization Girls4Science for a fall session focused on Pharmacy. Girls4Science exposes girls ages 10-18 within the Chicago area to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) with the goal of fostering an interest and breaking down barriers for females pursuing STEM-related careers.

Sixty-five students attend this event where our Walgreens volunteers moderated and participated in a speaker panel about the role of a pharmacist and answer other pharmacy-related questions.

In October, Walgreens was included in the SOCIAL category for the 2022 Pharmaceutical Technology Excellence Rankings on PharmaceuticalTechnology.com. The recognition was due in part to our pandemic response, including vaccine availability, improving healthcare access and distributing key information to vulnerable communities.?

Leveraging AI for vaccine scheduling and capacity management

Yael Gomez, Walgreens Global VP of IT, Integration, and Intelligent Automation recently discussed Walgreens use of AI technology with Chain Store Age magazine. The article focuses on the impact of AI on vaccine scheduling during the COVID pandemic, as well as future use of AI technology such as workload management and capacity planning. Happy Diwali!

On October 24, 2022, Diwali (the Festival of Lights) was recognized. We celebrated the holiday across our organization, including at our corporate Support Office where the Walgreens Asian Connect business resource group hosted a celebration. There were also celebrations in various business areas and store teams. Best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous new year to all! Happy Diwali!
