Celebrating and Supporting the Future Farmers of America

Since its inception in 1928, the objective of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization has been to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing and nurturing their protentional for leadership, individual growth and career success through an education in agriculture.

Today, the FFA organization is one of the largest youth leadership organizations in the U.S., providing young people an opportunity to experience and overcome common challenges that farm and ranch operations face in a positive, supportive and educational setting. ??

“[The skills that are developed in a FFA program] help prepare our youth to step into leadership roles in agriculture and contribute to passing on the family farm tradition. These programs also inspire and equip youth [who may have no] background in agriculture, with knowledge about what it really takes to grow food safely and sustainably.” AgAmerica.

Every February, the organization celebrates National FFA week where members take part in agricultural, leadership and service-based activities across the country. In 2024, National FFA week kicks off on Saturday, February 17 and runs through the 24th.??

As an insurance professional who serves the agribusiness community, National FFA week is a great time to participate in and show your support for FFA organizations in your area. Here’s how you can get involved:??? ????

  • Provide financial support in the form of scholarships, funding programs or initiatives or by simply making a donation in your insurance business’s name.?
  • Help develop and present educational programs that focus on risk management in agriculture, such as how various insurance coverages work in farming operations and the importance of having coverage to maintain a sustainable agriculture business.?
  • Be a mentor or offer an internship to an FFA member, providing them with real-world agribusiness insurance experience. ??
  • Consider sponsoring an event or competition. This not only helps to provide financial support but can increase your insurance business’s visibility and exposure among FFA members and the local community.
  • Show the agriculture that you support the organization by sharing information about National FFA week on your website, social media platforms, etc.
  • Become an advocate for FFA policies and legislation that are aimed at supporting agriculture and agribusiness education.

It’s not too late to see how you can help to support your local FFA organization during this year’s National FFA week, as well as year-round. Interested in planning something bigger for next year? Then mark your calendar! The kick-off date for National FFA week in 2025 is February 15th and for 2026, February 21st.
