Celebrating summer holidays on the Upper North Shore
How ever you celebrate it, the festive season holds a special place in the local Upper North Shore community.
Discover the events that will keep you and the family entertained into December and bring the Christmas cheer alive.
Buy a Christmas tree for the community: Scouts Christmas Trees
Sourced from the Southern Highlands, the lush Christmas trees sold by the various local Scout groups can be pre-booked and picked up on the weekend of the 7-8 December.
As well as securing the most sought-after fresh trees, you’ll be contributing to purchasing essential equipment for the youth members, such as life jackets, tents, rescue boats and sails.
Be inspired by the community: local Christmas markets
On the 23rd and 24th November you can get into the Christmas spirit early with a stroll through Eryldene Christmas Fair. The scenic, historic gardens play host to over 50 unique stalls which are sure to inspire your Christmas gift list and work up an appetite. The Wahroonga Village Christmas Fair is on 1 December.
Held on the first Thursday of December, the Twilight Christmas Markets hosted by Turramurra High School are the perfect way to contribute to the local community whilst conquering your gift giving, with a range of home wares, jewellery, clothing, candles, pottery, beauty products, jams, and Christmas baked goods available.
If you’re looking to give a gift with some extra heart, look no further than the Chatswood Fair Trade Market. On the 7th December you can purchase gifts such as Panama hats and hand-crafted silver jewellery that give back to their creators as well as to the lucky receivers.
Search for the sparkle: Christmas lights around the Upper North Shore
Each year the sparkle grows in the Upper North Shore during the festive season, with locals showcasing their seasonal lights displays.
You can hunt down the most spectacular light shows through Christmas Lights Search, but if you want to plan your route in advance you can use the most stunning displays from 2018 as a guide.
‘Tis the season for singing: Carols in the Upper North Shore
In Bicentennial Park West Pymble on Saturday 14th December, the leaves will be stirred by the voices of Carol-singing choirs, food stalls and fun activities as part of the annual Carols in the Park.
The preceding weekend plays host to more festivities, with the Macquarie Singers hosting their Starlit Christmas Concert at Turramurra Uniting Church. Tickets can be bought online to enjoy the Macquarie Chamber Orchestra in harmony with classic Christmas carols.
There are many other Christmas themed events available – check the local Council website for more. And watch out for Chanukah on the Green – a wonderful family outing – which usually runs in St Ives later in December.
Have a free Santa photo
Save some money this year by popping into our Turramurra office for a free photo with Santa on 14 December.
Spread joy with a special gift: Supporting Ladies of the Land
Whilst there’s a lot to celebrate at Christmas, there are also some members of our wider Australian community that need some extra support to make this season special.
At Chadwick, we’ve pledged to help make Christmas a bit brighter for the Ladies of the Land during the drought, and we want to ask for your help.
These dedicated ladies out in the bush often put themselves last, so now it’s our turn to put them first.
You can help by simply:
? Filling a shoebox with special pamper items
? Wrapping the box in newspaper and tying a ribbon around it
? Dropping it to Chadwick to pass on, on your behalf.
All Chadwick staff will be getting behind this worthy cause and you can too by simply dropping your box into our Turramurra or St Ives office by the 30th November.
Together we have the power to uplift a lady of the land this Christmas through the gift of giving back to those most worthy.
