Celebrating the South African – German – Swiss Cooperation on the Transparency, Integrity and Accountability Programme (TIP)

Last week began on a high note for co-operation between South Africa, Germany and Switzerland. On Monday, 20 June, senior officials representing the three governments, civil society organisations, the private sector and academia celebrated the launch of the South African – German – Swiss Cooperation on the Transparency, Integrity and Accountability Programme (TIP) and the co-financing of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) to the TIP.

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) with the support of GIZ hosted a launch event which was attended by many relevant partners of TIP as well as the German and Swiss ambassadors. The almost 60 guests enjoyed interesting speeches, an exciting panel discussion ending with an evening reception to continue conversations and strengthen relationships.

The co-financing of SECO will primarily support the improvement of open public procurement systems in South Africa through the TIP. In line with this, the German Ambassador to South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini, Andreas Peschke, stated: “This programme in its focus, multi-stakeholder approach and explicit support to prevent corruption marks a new level of cooperation building on decades of strong bilateral programmes. I am pleased that our partnership with South Africa now extends to Switzerland on the implementation of the TIP and the focus on strengthening open public procurement.”

The TIP is a partnership programme of the German, Swiss and South African Governments and is implemented by GIZ. The objective of the TIP is to support state and non-state actors to contribute to the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) in a whole-of-government and societal approach. This includes a contribution towards the implementation of Strategic Pillar Four of the NACS that seeks to improve the integrity and credibility of the public procurement system.
