Celebrating Small Wins Can Help You Achieve Big Goals

The journey to achieving a big goal is a series of small wins that are all-too-often overlooked by those aspiring to achieve greatness. But you’re doing yourself a disservice by not stopping to appreciate the small wins along the way.

Why Celebrate Small Wins??

Neuroscience has shown that celebrating small successes helps motivate you to continue to achieve. It helps you stay on track and reminds you of how far you’ve already come in moving toward your big goals. Here are a few tips for creating those successful habits:

  • Create a "Positive Feedback Loop"
  • Showing yourself appreciation and gratitude regularly for small wins wires your brain to perceive these efforts as part of the journey to greatness. It provides an energy boost that helps keep you motivated to stay with it. This action is called a positive feedback loop, where you accomplish a small task, celebrate, get an energy boost to do more, and go on.
  • Track Your Progress
  • Looking back helps motivate you to look forward — and keep moving toward your big goal.

How Can You Celebrate Small Wins??

Aside from acknowledging them, don’t be afraid to reward yourself. Share your victories with your loved ones. Then, set your next goal and reward for getting to that next step.?

Small rewards could be taking your team or family out for lunch, dinner, or coffee. You could treat yourself to something special, like a spa day or massage. Take a day off, or give your team an extra day off. Share your gratitude with those who helped you get there — sending a note or even a text message will make you feel good, too.?

High achievers who burn out often do so because they fail to acknowledge their small wins along the way. Don’t make that mistake with yourself or your team. Take a look at how far you’ve come, and plan a way to celebrate today.
