Celebrating the Season of Light

Happy Winter Solstice!

Tonight, as I write this, it is the longest night of the year. Yule.?

There are so many beautiful Holiday Traditions. All focused on the return of the light, family, and community.?

The U.S. is truly a melting pot of cultural traditions. Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and many more.?

My grandpa Lloyd was Norwegian. I celebrate Yule or the Solstice. You may be familiar with the French elaborately decorated chocolate Yule Log cake.?

We made oyster stew and my dad was an eggnog addict. My Uncle Andy still makes lefsa every year. I do like herring but I draw a hard line at lutefisk.?

One of my favorite Yule Traditions is to write all the things you want to release onto little slips of paper - then burn them. I love a good fire ritual. I completed this before I sat down to write tonight. Felt cleansing.

Whatever you celebrate, keep it light and joyful. No obligation or duty. Decorate, cook, gift - or not - from a place of Love.?

I saw a meme on FB - "Tradition - Peer pressure from dead people." Funny. Sarcastic. Tragic.?

Make the holiday work for you. Do less. Enjoy more.?

We've been through a lot of darkness. It is time to celebrate the Light.?

What is working for you right now? That is the light that will lead you forward. Follow that.

What feels dark and heavy? Bring that into the light and let it go

What ideas have you allowed to fall into the darkness? Can they be adapted and saved by the light?

Where do you feel broken and exhausted? Bring those parts into the light also to brighten or burn away.?

Dream a little during these long cold nights. Rest and Recover. Breathe deeply of the crisp, honest air. Find renewal in the stillness.?
