Today, on 28th August 2024, we celebrate Emirati Women's Day, a day dedicated to honouring the incredible achievements and contributions of Emirati women to the nation's development.
Under the visionary guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, "Mother of the Nation," and Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, this year's theme is "We share for tomorrow." It is a powerful reminder of the collective strength and forward-thinking spirit of Emirati women who are shaping the future of the UAE.
There seems to be a common misconception that women in the Middle East, including Emirati women, are oppressed and lack opportunities. we can blame social media, current affairs or our ignorance, but nothing could be further from the truth. Having travelled frequently to the UAE, namely Dubai, I have witnessed first-hand the grace, strength, and tenacity of Emirati women who are making "boss moves" in various sectors. They are highly empowered, incredibly inspiring, and true trailblazers in their fields. From government to business, technology to healthcare, they are breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes, and driving positive change. As black woman, a non-Emirati I am both inspired and motivated by what I see.
Today, Emirati women hold senior positions in some of the largest companies and institutions in the UAE and beyond. Their contributions are not only transforming their industries but also propelling the country's economic growth and global standing. Here comes the girls!!! and a few examples of Emirati women who have broken barriers:
The UAE's approach to empowering women stands as a powerful example of what is possible when a society invests in its women and provides them with the right support, opportunities, and environments to thrive. Exactly the reason why I love deliering leadersjip training out there becasue I get to witness the huge transformation it makes. Emirati women remind me that when women are empowered, societies prosper. Every time!
As we celebrate Emirati Women's Day, let us continue to support and amplify the voices of these inspiring women who are redefining what it means to be leaders, innovators, and change-makers. Their journey is a testament to the boundless potential that lies within every woman, and their stories are a source of inspiration for women around the world.
"When women support each other, incredible things happen."
