Celebrating the Programme and Project Partners’ Excellence Award winners

PPP’s first Excellence Awards event took place in May and saw 14 awards presented to individuals, teams and supply chain partners.

More than 170 people from across PPP and the supply chain attended the first ever Team PPP Excellence Awards last week, at Energus in Lillyhall, to celebrate outstanding work from individuals, teams and supply chain partners.

14 awards were announced on the night (see below) and everyone in attendance really raised the roof with their cheers for all the nominees and winners.

Duncan Elliott, Head of PPP, said:

“It was great to come together to celebrate the efforts of all our nominees and winners. This year’s awards were timed to coincide with PPP’s third anniversary and provided a tremendous opportunity to reflect on the hard work of our people and our supply chain partners. I’m still off the scale with pride, all of our nominees and winners should be very proud of their achievements, congratulations.”

Team Zero Harm Performance - The HVAC Design Team for BEPPS2 & LSS1

The winning team was applauded for how they have embraced sustainability and innovation.

The HVAC Design Team for BEPPS2 & LSS1 has designed a new and innovative approach to building a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

The innovative HVAC design will lead Sellafield Ltd to a substantially reduced carbon footprint, achieving up to a 90% reduction of the energy requirement compared to traditional approaches, whilst reducing operating costs and achieving increased value for money for the UK taxpayer.

A great example of how we can achieve multiple benefits while reducing our environmental impact.

The Team of the Year Award - PPP Supply Chain Team???????

PPP’s Supply Chain Team was recognised for developing and implementing a series of major contracts. To date, the team has successfully put in place four multi-project procurement contracts which have resulted in one KPI being achieved and the first project wide objective. The team has co-ordinated and managed input from a diverse range of skills, engaging with the SME supply chain to facilitate the forming of new relationships and to improve visibility of opportunities for the SME community.

Best Innovation – winners selected from?PPP’s Ideas Portal:

Gold Award - Puneet Kalia (Streamlined Assurance Process)

The Best Innovation Gold Award went to Programme Integration Manager Puneet Kalia for his streamlined assurance process. Processes and procedures develop and evolve over time due to learning from experience. In a number of cases, we are challenging these procedures to remove redundant tasks and processes, but also considering the core principle of the task needed.

With every process and procedure we follow there is also a need to verify we are meeting the requirement, obtaining approvals and sanction. The challenge is to do this once, smartly and cost effectively.

Silver Award - Phil Greyling (Concept Framing)

The Best Innovation Silver Award went to P3M Manager Phil Greyling for an idea that challenges the very basis of the client’s requirements at the earliest stage. Major projects can, if not challenged, develop in to a complex and overloaded solution where the initial requirements get lost in the ever-expanding proposal.

Phil’s solution keeps challenging the team against the initial requirements and looks to restrict adding un-scoped additions. Although in its early stages, the potential to reduce major project time and cost, demonstrates the advantages PPP can bring at an early concept stage.

Special Recognition Award - Will Clothier (PPE Recycling)

The Best Innovation Special Recognition Award went to Environment Specialist Will Clothier and is about doing the right thing when discarding personal protective equipment (PPE).

We can discard tonnes of waste PPE each year, but in some areas, there is not a recognised recycling solution. Will’s solution will see special PPE recycling bins heading to site very soon.

The Rising Star Award - Aidan Sweeney

?Awards guests raised a huge cheer for Aidan on the night, celebrating his multiple nominations. Aidan works on PPP’s Replacement Analytical Project (RAP) as a quantity surveyor and was recognised for supporting cost reporting on the project, going the extra mile and beyond to deliver.?????

Developing the Next Generation - Barry Tuzio

The Developing the Next Generation Award went to engineer Barry Tuzio, who throughout the whole pandemic period ensured that he put the development of apprentices and graduates as a top priority.

Recognising the importance of maintaining safe face to face teachings, Barry continued to work in the office every week, dedicating his time to support the development of our next generation.

Unsung Hero - Dawn Keenan

Supply Chain Coordinator Dawn was nominated multiple times by colleagues. Dawn’s nominations included:

“They’re quite simply a superstar.”

“This person is the unsung hero of PPP and the reason the Supply Chain team has been able to achieve a milestone KPI, the first PPP project wide objective and award 4 frameworks worth £1bn.”

“She works tirelessly coordinating the MPP procurement managers - not an easy task - ensuring that everything runs to schedule and everyone has what they need.”

Dawn Keenan wins the Unsung Hero Award.

Social Impact Award - Kier????

Kier picked up the Social Impact Award for really embracing PPP’s focus on social impact. Kier are the first contractor to deliver against their social impact KPI, in full.

They’ve amassed hundreds of volunteer hours via PPP’s Timebank initiative, including time spent in schools promoting STEM subjects, providing work experience placements, mentoring young people and volunteering in the local community to support Age UK and Lowther Street young people’s hostel in Whitehaven.

All this and more while delivering their services on our SRP project.

Kier wins the Social Impact Award.

Exceptional Colleague of the Year - Jenefer Alam???

The Collaboration Award - Puneet Kalia

A thoroughly deserved second award for Puneet after being nominated multiple times. The judges recognised Puneet’s collaborative behaviours and just how highly regarded he is by his colleagues.

One nomination said:

‘Look just about anywhere on any day around PPP and you will see him engaging enthusiastically on just about any topic. He is always willing to put his hand up for the most awkward tasks requiring the bringing together of many minds across PPP. Notable is his creation of the latest version of PPP’s operating model, involvement in challenging tasks like RAP optimisation and ADT simplification. I'm often amused and delighted to see him popping up just about everywhere to help things along, and with a great sense of humour to boot.’

Puneet Kalia wins the Collaboration Award.

Supply Chain Award - West Cumberland Engineering Ltd

West Cumberland Engineering Ltd were crowned PPP’s supply chain partners of the year, being recognised as a local and long-term supplier committed to Sellafield.

Their outstanding ‘right first time’ manufacturing performance on the SIXEP Continuity Plant (SCP) was commended by the judging panel and their ability to meet every schedule milestone. In some cases, manufactured items have been successfully accelerated from their original timelines to meet changing priorities on site and this has been a key enabler to accelerating the SCP construction phase.

West Cumberland Engineering Ltd has a workforce that is entirely locally based and includes numerous trade apprentices. The range and quantity of items they produce has provided an excellent opportunity for apprentices to develop their skills on stainless steel fabrication. Their performance has been achieved during the concerns and restrictions of the pandemic and this makes it truly outstanding.
