Celebrating People: Ken McInerney

Last fall, Kenneth McInerney took on the director of engineering (DoE) role for Maritime and Strategic Systems (M&SS) line of business (LOB).

Ken has spent the last 33 years at GD Mission Systems. He said that it was a combination of his experience in engineering, business capture and program management that positioned him for his current role as DoE.

“I get to lead an awesome team of engineers who make our nation a safer place to enjoy our freedoms," Ken explained.

Currently based in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he also supports M&SS engineers at the Dedham, Massachusetts; Taunton, Massachusetts; Marion, Virginia; Kings Bay, Georgia; Mobile, Alabama; Cullman, Alabama; Silverdale, Washington; San Diego, California; and Cape Canaveral, Florida sites.

He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in business administration, both from Western New England University. Outside of work, Ken volunteers with the town of New Ashford and mentors a high school robotics team. He also enjoys carpentry, automotive repair, outdoor activities and spending time with family.

Within GD Mission Systems, Ken strives to be a servant leader and believes that continuous conversation/engagement, accountability, mentoring and metric-driven execution will ensure that M&SS engineering continues to be a high-performing organization.

About M&SS Engineering

Engineers in the M&SS LOB support both long-term and short-term mission capability and flexibility on submarines, surface ships, and land-based and airborne-open architecture platforms.

"We have undersea to ballistic space covered," Ken said. “Our organization prides itself on a 'Sleep tight. We've got this!' mentality when it comes to our national defense protection."
