Celebrating Our People and Our Incredible First Year

It’s hard to believe that, just a little over a year ago, Interwell Health was formed with a mission to reimagine kidney care and help patients live their best lives. We have seen a whirlwind of activity since then, and I cannot express how honored I am to work side by side with some of the best clinicians, caregivers, data scientists, software engineers, and patient engagement specialists in the world to transform the way in which kidney care is accessed and delivered.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. In just our first year, we have added almost 100 nephrologists to our network, bringing our total to 1,700 physicians supporting patients across the country. And we now care for more than 125,000 people living with kidney disease, a 25 percent increase since our inception.

Simply put, we are helping more and more patients stay healthy, at home, and out of the hospital.

Most importantly, we continue to have a significant impact on the patients for whom we help care. We have reduced all-cause hospitalizations by almost 20 percent. And for those of our patients who start dialysis, they experience an optimal start rate that is 154% above the national average and a home dialysis start rate that is 87% above the national average. Simply put, we are helping more and more patients stay healthy, at home, and out of the hospital. This has led not only to measurable impacts on patients’ quality of life, but also significant cost savings for our payer partners.

Our efforts to make kidney care more personal don’t stop there, which is why we are launching a corporate social responsibility platform that extends our day-to-day work through advocacy and volunteerism. We are focusing on addressing earlier detection, social determinants of health, and health equity. And we encourage and enable our employees to give back to their communities, offering an annual paid day off for volunteering, and providing extensive paid time off for organ donation.

None of this success and progress would be possible without the tireless work of everyone in our extended Interwell Health family. Our provider partners and employees are the heartbeat of our organization. Every day, their combined skills, experience, and efforts make a real difference in the lives of many patients and families.

It’s been a great year. But I'm even more excited to think of what our entire Interwell Health team will do to help kidney patients live their best lives in the years to come.
