Celebrating our differences

After the launch and workshop this week on our research into creating a fairer and more diverse hospitality sector I've finally breathed and reflected. This doesn't come naturally to me, I say this a lot; I'm a natural operator, an ideas person who also loves to do things, deliver the goods! I was extremely grateful to Nick Bish for introducing me to the fantastic John Higgins, and the consultancy he works for GameShift, in order for us to collaborate on our research study around women leaders.

My big ask of the hospitality sector is to recognise we don't all have to look, sound, think or act the same to be successful. Actually, there are numerous reports that identify, the more diverse the team, the better the results.

This is why I have loved working with John, two diverse people, different educational backgrounds, experiences and personalities. 

CSF No. 2 is 'Seek out the unintended bias'; don't fall into the trap of recruiting in your own image. If I hadn't taken this approach my research would never have got off the ground. John and I are different; our qualities and strengths, which we both value and are very comfortable with.

GameShift are a leading management consultancy who work with people and performance, focusing on the human and relational aspects of organisational life. How they work suits my style too because it is all about deep participation to bring about positive change, much like the work I do with my Brilliant Women programme.

So this post it dedicated to celebrating our differences and taking a leap of faith to trust each other and expand you're learning.
