??Celebrating the Opening of the #LetsTalkPERIOD Art Exhibition
Marking the opening of #LetsTalkPERIOD art exhibition, H.E. Amb. Heike Uta Dettmann of German Embassy Kigali emphasized the importance of addressing #PeriodPoverty, #GBV, & #MenstrualHealth & creating safe spaces for women & girls to discuss menstrual health openly, without shame.
'Let’s celebrate menstruation as a natural part of life,' she noted, applauding the diverse audience and sharing her admiration for the powerful pieces displayed at the #LetsTalkPERIOD art exhibition.
For his part during the opening of the #LetsTalkPERIOD art exhibition, our Country Director, Maik Schwarz emphasized how this exhibition reminds us of the challenges women and girls face and of the work we all need to do for a more #GenderEqual and #Inclusive future.
'Sexual and Gender-based Violence (#SGBV) and menstruation stigma are more than just taboos, they are barriers that limit entire societies. When women and girls are stigmatized and excluded, it impacts entire families, communities, economies, and ultimately societies' he added.
Menstruation and #SGBV are still taboos in many parts of the world. This stigmatization & negative impacts of SGBV not only hinder open discussions but also access to urgently needed resources, education and change towards more gender equality. Let’s talk about it - #LetsTalkPeriod
