Celebrating one year at TIDE

This week our UI/UX designer Alex Stocker is celebrating his one-year anniversary at TIDE, and what a year it has been! After joining the team in June 2023, he quickly became a valued team member of TIDE. To mark the occasion, we sat down with him recently to find out how he has found the last year.?

Before joining us, he was working at a digital agency in Wellingborough. His main focus was the design and creation of websites which equipped him well for his role with us! Since joining he has overhauled the Geodesys website, and even done some website work for other businesses in our group such as Alpheus. With 7 years of combined experience as a visual designer and Webflow developer he’s the perfect fit for our team.?

What do you enjoy most about your job and working at TIDE????

I really enjoy working with the team. We’ve got an amazing team at TIDE and the collaboration between teams is great, which makes the job even better. I love the mixture of designing every day and working with others.?

What does a normal day look like for you??

I guess it depends on a whole bunch of things and whether I am in the office or working from home. Working from home, I try to get a head start on all my admin first thing. This can be hard when I am in the office, so I try to make the most of my time at home. We have a UI/UX stand-up meeting every morning. These are great to talk through and divide tasks with the other half of the team, Abhinav Santhosh . After that, it is a complete mixture of things, and no two days ever look the same! We can be working on a wide range of tasks from user interface design to improving the user experience of our internal products to external website projects. I also spend a lot of time planning and looking at task management to ensure we keep on top of things. If I’m in the office, there is usually a game of table tennis between myself and Abhinav!??

What’s your favourite thing about working together as a team??

Being able to learn new things every day is brilliant. Abhinav and I both push each other to grow and develop. We share our knowledge to help each other get better in different areas. And the same applies to the wider team. We’re always encouraging each other to be the best we can be, as well as helping each other out. It’s the collaboration and working together that I love most.??

What's your favourite memory of working at TIDE so far??

Relaunching the Geodesys website was a really big achievement. As was the Alpheus site. I enjoyed going through the whole process of the website projects, from start to finish. I also like the fun team days that we have had, especially the team building day at Wyboston. I had only been with the company a few weeks, so it was an awesome day to be a part of and a great way to meet everyone.?

How do you like spending your time outside of work??

I like doing all sorts of things. Obviously spending time with my family, and my two kids. In my time away from my family, I like to play golf, or go out for nice food with friends. My life has changed so much in the last three years since having kids, everything is about them these days! I listen to a lot of music. Tom Misch is one of my favourite artists at the moment, and I’ve always been a big fan of the Foo Fighters. I also love a good podcast. There are a few that I listen to depending on my mood. For all the other designers out there, The Dive Club is a great podcast if you’re looking to learn from some of today’s most prolific designers. Some of the others I listen to are ‘On purpose’ by Jay Shetty and there’s an awesome one about parenting, called ‘Parenting Hell’ by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe. It has some really good insights on how other parents are coping, or not coping, and is also very funny.?
