Today marks a significant milestone in the realm of artificial intelligence – the first anniversary of ChatGPT by OpenAI. Introduced on November 30, 2022, ChatGPT marked a pivotal moment in making Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) and Large Language Models (LLMs) accessible to the wider public.
I first met ChatGPT sometime in the first week of its release, at first I was highly skeptical and did not believe in the media hype. After spending time testing it in the first few weeks, I was convinced that this is going to be a revolutionary change.
ChatGPT, more than just a tech marvel, has been a gateway to possibilities I never imagined. I have:
Interestingly, I had no technology background and barely knew what Python was as of December 1, 2023.
Reflecting on the past year, my journey with ChatGPT has been enlightening. From skepticism to adoption, I've seen firsthand the capabilities of these models. However, it's essential to understand that the real game-changer isn't just ChatGPT itself. It's the specialized, fine-tuned models that will be developed to perform specific job functions.
These smaller, more agile models can be loaded onto regular machines and run on local devices, fine-tuned with task-specific training at organisation and individual process level. They will be designed to perform tasks tailored to processes within each organisation, potentially matching or even surpassing human performance. And, much like human professionals, these models improve and evolve over time, gaining expertise and efficiency with experience.
As we look forward to the next 12 months and beyond, we must prepare for an era where AI doesn't just assist but plays a critical role in our workflows. The future isn't about ChatGPT doing our jobs; it's about specialized AI models seamlessly integrating into our professional ecosystem, reshaping how we approach our work.
