Celebrating October in North Carolina with Cherished Traditions

October is one of my favorite months because of the beautiful weather, the leaves changing colors, and the fact that it always initiates the start of the holiday season and family traditions. Growing up in North Carolina, my family always tried to take advantage of being so close to the mountains by taking a day trip every year to see the leaves during peak week, and it has become one of the traditions I look forward to the most. We spend the day traveling together, eating at one of our favorite restaurants, and walking around downtown Boone and Bule Ridge Parkway trails surrounded by vibrant colors and crisp autumn air.?
For as long as I can remember, I have attended the North Carolina State Fair every year, which has become another cherished October tradition. It all started when, as a kid, I would compete in a dance competition that was hosted at the fair, and as my reward for performing, I would try to ride as many rides as possible and enjoy sweet treats like candy apples and fried Oreos. As I have gotten older, I now go to the fair to enjoy spending time with my friends and family, but still trying some great food and working up the courage to try a ride or two.?

My visit this year was especially fun because my friends and I aimed to hit our favorite spots. First, we got a basket of fries from our favorite vendor, Al’s French Fries. Then, we walked around the Agri Supply Expo Center and saw all the adorable farm animals. Next, we worked towards the rides and quickly stopped to get some Wisconsin Cheese Nuggets and Fried Oreos. To end the night, we took a spin on a couple of rides and watched the fireworks before heading back to Chapel Hill.?
