Celebrating National Youth Day with ANANDA

Today, January 12th is celebrated as National Youth Day to honour? Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary. Swami Vivekananda, a visionary leader whose thoughts , words & deeds continue to influence modern India. It’s 162 years since he set foot on the planet, and the work he has done through the Ramakrishna Mission that he founded is significant.?

Was watching a movie yesterday when I saw this little girl who was asked by her teacher what she wants to be when she grows up. He? gave her a choice of professions. Innocently she? said “Happy”. It irritated the teacher. However thinking deeper, it truly is difficult to be happy whatever the profession we take up. Happiness is a choice.

The Belur Math is testimony to the work & legacy of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa that his favourite disciple took up and lived proving the name his guru gave him Vivek ( Enlightened) Ananda ( Happiness)

In his short span of 39 years that Vivekananda walked the mortal path he made his mission so meaningful.?

Today I decided to dissect ANANDA to see what comprised the? happiness that Swami Vivekananda spread using his quotes.

Awareness:?

The awareness of the self was something Swamiji stressed from the beginning. Everything in him began with? this Awareness.We are all beings with Energy & what we exude is what makes it very important to be aware of. This awareness is where our choices in the way we live emerge. This quote explains this to us:

“Every existence from the highest to the lowest, all manifest according to their degree- energy ( in the higher life), attraction ( in higher love), and struggle for equilibrium ( in higher happiness)”

Nation first:

The Nation always came first. The youth of the country was what he needed to mobilise. Using them as volunteers he realised was the best way to reach to the masses. The inspiration he began was with feeding the hunger of the poor and to feed so many who better than the youth who are present in every class of society. Mobilising their power , he wadable to address the basic problem of the country first.

Ramakrishna Mission was established in order to propagate the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It conducts research in the field of health care, elementary and higher education, tribal welfare and culture.

“Each nation has a destiny to fulfil, each nation has a message to deliver, each nation has a mission to accomplish. Therefore we must have to understand the mission of our own race, the destiny it has to fulfil, the place it has to occupy in the march of nations, the role which it has to contribute to the harmony of races”.

Acceptance:?

Vivekananda believed that self belief started with self acceptance. Once you accept yourself become aware of areas that can be improved you will be willing to change. This acceptance? is the first step to growth and this where magic begins. Acknowledging the divinity within is first step. We have all that ability. Once we accept we will then discover that magic.

“All power is within you. You can do anything and everything. Believe in that. Do not believe that you are weak; do not believe that you are half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays. Stand up and express the divinity within you.”

Non judgemental:

Many a time biases play such an important role in our moving forward. Our likes and dislikes could be conditioned or otherwise can be critical in helping us work in a neutral fashion. Though tough being neutral is important. Everyone has a strength that can be leveraged especially when we work in teams which is integral in today’s work situations. Though tough it is well worth it for overall growth!

“Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.”

Dedication:

When an idea occurs to you work on all the thoughts that come forth. Every successful business small or big is after all an idea that was implemented. While many are worried about the risks involved & so do not move forward, those who do choose to live, breathe & work consistently on it are the doers. They are the action takers who are willing to take “the Road not Taken” too sometimes thus becoming the outlie

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; dream of it; think of it; live on that idea. Let the brain, the body, muscles, nerves, and every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants are produced.”

Action:

Getting out of your comfort zone is prime. That is the first step. Once you do that you will face challenges.You will then have to build, resilience and a great deal of inner strength to face problems that arise in unfamiliar paths. The journey therefore becomes as important as the destination because, the journey & its challenges transforms you to becoming a better version of yourself!
