Celebrating National Volunteer Month: Reflecting on Our Commitment to Community

By Katrina McFadden, Chief People Officer

As Chief People Officer at Organigram, I am incredibly proud to reflect on the remarkable achievements of our team in April during National Volunteer Month. Under our CSR program, "Organigram Operating for Good," we set out with an ambitious goal of 800 volunteer hours for the month. I am thrilled to announce that our collective dedication and passion led us to surpass this target, with almost 1,300 hours volunteered across our organization.

Embracing Purpose: The Heart of Our CSR Program

Our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live and work is deeply ingrained in our company culture. We are happy to have employees volunteer their time during the work day. It underscores our dedication to the program’s core principal of building healthy communities where we live and work.[AF1]?[JM2]? Through initiatives like National Volunteer Month, we aim to enhance the lives of those around us and make a positive impact beyond the realms of cannabis. This April, our employees across all facilities rallied together to participate in various volunteering activities, with a significant portion of hours dedicated to Earth Day events. Our facilities in Lac-Supérieur and Winnipeg made meaningful contributions, with employees dedicating their time to cleaning up the areas around our facilities, even in the face of some late April snow!

In Moncton, our dedicated team volunteered over 670 hours to clean up local parks and neighborhoods, resulting in the collection of over 1,090 kgs of waste. The support and enthusiasm shown by our Moncton team exemplify the spirit of community and environmental stewardship that we strive to foster.

Our Moncton Earth Day event resulted in nearly 1,100 Kgs of trash collected!

Additionally, smaller groups in Calgary and Toronto organized cleanup events, further demonstrating our company-wide commitment to giving back.

Pledge 1%: Integrating Philanthropy into Business Practices

At the heart of our CSR program is the global movement, Pledge 1%. This commitment extends to four distinct areas of focus: Access to Food, Safe Housing, Clean Environments, and Community Outreach. Each volunteering opportunity is carefully selected to align with these pillars, ensuring that our efforts create meaningful and lasting change.

Initiatives like National Volunteer Month not only benefit the communities we serve but also foster employee engagement, morale, and a sense of purpose. By participating in volunteer activities, our team members can connect with each other, build relationships, and develop skills outside of their daily responsibilities. Furthermore, these initiatives align with our values as an organization, helping us attract and retain talent who share our commitment to making a difference.

As we celebrate the success of National Volunteer Month, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every team member who contributed their time and effort to these meaningful initiatives. Your dedication exemplifies the spirit of Organigram and reinforces our commitment to building a better future for all. Together, let's continue to make a positive impact and inspire change in the communities we serve.
