Celebrating National Video Games Day 2022 with our favorite gaming apps

It’s September 12, 2022, and therefore, we say, “Happy National Video Games Day” to all our gamers, mobile app gaming communities, and games developers. Celebrated as early as 1983, this day salutes the many different games that have brought joy and fun into our lives. To celebrate, we asked Adjusters to share their favorite mobile gaming apps with us and to tell us why they love them!?

Pokémon Go: My favorite mobile game is Pokémon Go. I was a huge Pokémon fan as a child, so PoGo is a mix of nostalgia and fun for me. One of the things I enjoy about it most is the real-life events, where players from all over the world come together for what are basically Pokémon festivals. Having played for years now, my account is pretty impressive, and I have some amazing, rare Pokémon that I am fairly attached to and like to scroll through and look at from time to time. I also have a few friends who play.?

Something else I love about it is that it always gets me out of the house. Whether it be to complete an objective, collect something in-game, or simply hit my weekly walking goals (for which you get rewards), it's an extra bit of motivation to get my steps in and to get out into the world.

Plants vs. Zombies: My favorite mobile game is Plants vs. Zombies, I first played it as a kid in Europe with my best friend and then got back to it after more than a decade, and it's still super fun! I play it at home on the couch, usually on weekends or in the evenings after work. I like it because the levels get progressively more challenging, and I like a good challenge. I also like it because it's super nostalgic for me.

Hades Star: I have always dreamed of a space game where my pace of evolution depends on the time and reflection I am willing to devote to it. I found Hades Star and loved its minimalist graphics, its multitudes of strategic possibilities, and a development that is different from what you find in other games—like a twinkling star in a vast universe. The very friendly and multicultural community is just a plus to one of my favorite games.

Pokémon Unite: My favorite game is Pokemon Unite. I've loved Pokémon since I was a little child, so I was really excited to see this game released as a MOBA (Multiplayer online battle arena). This game is a 5v5 game, and it's well-balanced. You can play on your smartphone or Nintendo Switch with players around the world.?Even though it's in a MOBA genre, which is usually created for heavy game players, the fact that it’s a relatively simple operation method and can be played in a short time (5 to 10 minutes) is epoch-making. Also, the attractive updates keep players from getting bored. It's always exciting to see new Pokémon added, and it's really fun to research strategies for how to deal with them.

One thing to watch out for is not to overdo it, as you could easily spend most of your free time playing!

PUBG Mobile: I've recently got hooked on PUBG Mobile, a shooting battle game. What appeals to me is the challenge of using the limited resources I have at the beginning of every match to survive and win. You need to run around, picking up your weapons and toolkits while defending yourself against other players who may appear out of nowhere and give you a headshot. It’s such good practice in case we enter a zombie apocalypse!?

Chess.com: I am mainly playing the app Chess.com on my phone. I started playing the game during middle school and got back to it like many others when I watched "The Queen's Gambit" series two years ago. The app allows you to challenge real users in short games, and it never gets boring. I play mostly in public transportation or after work in the winter evenings.

Family Island: Three years ago, I started playing Family Island. It’s a farming game. I have played it every day—usually in the morning and in the evening while watching TV. I like it not only because of the special adventures in the game, which require strategic planning skills but also because of the great humor of the game. The dialogue between characters makes me laugh all the time! So this game gives me positive vibes only. That's why I go back to it, again and again, to “meet the family”.??
