Celebrating National Spreadsheet Day!
Today is National Spreadsheet Day. And while that might make you snicker, believe me – others are celebrating in their own unique way.
We all use spreadsheets, sometimes daily. However, are you aware that most have errors? One studyfrom Tuck School of Business found that 94% of spreadsheets had errors and that the average cell error rate (the ratio of cells with errors to all cells with formulas) is 5.2%.
Two things stand out, 1: data without integrity is a poor way to manage any process, and 2: spreadsheets describe what happened in the past. There is a time and place for this, but as you move up the “analytics food chain” instead of using data to describe what has happened, you graduate to “what action(s) will achieve the best outcome”.
The Minimum Data Set (MDS), taken on face value, describes the past and current state of the resident. However, combining this valid clinical dataset with sophisticated predictive modeling can bring you to the most desired outcome, in an efficient manner, for both the patient/resident and the facility.

6 年Planet Money has a fantastic podcast episode on the invention of the spreadsheet if you haven't listened to it. I think it's episode 606, but I may be misremembering.
