Celebrating National Hospitalist Day
Today is National Hospitalist Day, and I'd like to take a moment to thank our hospitalists.
For those of you not familiar with hospitalists, hospitalists are physicians who specialize in taking care of patients in the hospital. They are typically the quarterbacks on the care team, serving as the physician point for care. Hospital medicine as a field wasn't always a thing and only burgeoned from the mid 90s and on. Now, hospitalists play an integral role in how care is delivered, coordinated and transitioned from the hospital.
I am lucky that we have amazing hospitalists at Providence who fully commit to caring for patients at their most vulnerable time. For anyone who has been hospitalized or has had a loved one who has, you likely looked to the hospitalist as a guide, a shepherd, and as a beacon of hope during a fragile uncertain time.
Healthcare will change and evolve, and hospitalists will be key in the design of how we will deliver care to acutely ill patients in the future.
Thank you to all the hospitalists for committing to years of training and thereafter to take care of patients when they set foot into our hospitals. I hope that you will be able to stop and reflect today on the impact that you have on your patients, communities, broader physician and caregiver community, and our hospitals.
