Matthew Cauz
Matthew Cauz is a sports talk radio host for TSN 1050 and has been a Member of the National Club since 2006. He also hosts the ‘Matt Talks Wine & Stuff with Interesting People’ Podcast. You can find Matthew mostly on twitter at @mcauz56 and on Instagram @matthewcauz?
Who or what inspired you to become a member of the National Club??
My close friend Tim Morris introduced me to the club and it was Brian Perry (the Club’s long-standing sommelier) who sealed the deal.?
What surprised you the most about the National Club, after you joined??
The unintended consequences. By joining I made new friends that led me to weddings in Daytona Beach, trying a 2000 Chateau Margaux paired with maggots (Ask Geoffrey Johnson… also pretty tasty), and getting to stay in reciprocal clubs across North America.?
If you could bring a favourite person (including historical persons, living or dead) to one event at the National Club, who and which event would it be??
Phil Hartman. One of the most talented actors to work on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and one of the best voice actors in ‘Simpsons’ history. The event would be one of the annual wine dinners where he would co-host with me (Geoffrey you get the night off). Best part is he would do most of the work and have the crowd in stitches.?
What did you miss most about the National Club during the Covid lockdowns??
The formal and informal elements. I have missed the black-tie wine events, getting to try wines I would never be able to encounter, and that random Wednesday night popping in for a quick meal and running into friends.?
What is a fun fact that your friends might not know about you??

I was once on stage with ‘Poison’ at the Molson Amphitheatre with Brett Michaels bringing me on stage!
What is your favourite occupation – if time and money were no object??
I’m lucky enough it is my current job as a radio host. I do not dread Sunday night or Monday morning, a fact that I never take for granted. The time on air is always a joy, which is good ‘cause this isn’t a job you do if money is the object.?
What is your favourite quote??
“To the most beautiful moment in life. Better than the deed, better than the memory. The moment... of anticipation!” - Jacques Brunswick from ‘The Simpsons’?
What is your biggest pet peeve??
Littering, the purest form of narcissism.?
Which fictional character do you identify with the most???
Max Fischer from ‘Rushmore’. This young dude with so much optimism and energy who is eternally curious even when many of his ventures fail.?
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement??
I have run a couple sub 3:30 marathons, then celebrated by consuming more calories that I burned off during those marathons.?
