Celebrating the Month of Love, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya partnered with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to Build a Home.

Surabaya, February 2023 - At the core of its values, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya pledged to ‘Put People First’ and ‘Serve Our World’. Striving to be a force for good, JW Marriott’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for 2023 drives the social impact close to home by partnering with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to build houses for underprivileged families in Gresik, East Java. The “Stay to Give” program has finally come to fruition and will be JW Marriott’s personal touch to spread love during Months of Love.

?With ‘Stay to Give’, JW Marriott Surabaya invited guests to make every night count. Guests participating in the cause will not just find a luxurious stay away from home, but also simultaneously provide a hand in creating a comfortable home to house underprivileged families for decades to come. As a form of commemoration, guests were given a teddy bear to represent the warmth of loving and making a positive impact.

?Stay to Give is a program that is deeply personal for JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya. Partnering with the amazing people at Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, media partners and the hotel’s internal team, JW Marriott has built a couple of houses since 2019. Due to unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19 lockdowns, the program went dormant for 2 years. It is with exhilaration that JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya announces the continuation of building more houses this year.

?During the 4 (four) months of September 2022 until February 2023, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya has garnered IDR 55.000.000 to build one home. After three stages, Habitat for Humanity Indonesia has chosen Ibnu Abbas (52 years old) and Family to receive the love of JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya.

“It is with great honor that we continue our mission of building homes through this Stay to Give program. Creating positive and sustainable impacts for the people around us has always been a commitment that we have kept since our founding day. We feel that there is no greater way to create positive change than to start from the roots: a home for families to build their lives upon.” said Gaurav Saxena, General Manager of JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya.?

On February 15, 2023, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya and media partners had the opportunity to meet Ibnu Abbas and his warm family of 2 adult females and 2 children. They are currently living in a non-permanent house made out of weathered plywood and woven bamboo walls with no hygienic bathroom. To ward off the monsoon chills and summer heat, they were in dire need of a permanent house. With the purpose of helping Ibnu provide a better life for his family, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya and media partners came together to support the Habitat for Humanity Indonesia Team in constructing walls and plastering Ibnu’s new home.

"Alhamdulillah. I am deeply grateful for this kindness. 30 years ago, I built this house myself with whatever materials were available. Our rooftop often leaks and rainwater would seep in. A lot needs to be fixed. My wife and I often pray in hope of fixing the house. However, we never have enough money. My family and I are greatly thankful to JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya and Habitat for Humanity for making our wish come true", said Ibnu Abbas while feeling moved.

“We are delighted to be a part of a great cause to change lives through building homes. We cannot thank everyone enough for making this possible. We?make this an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event. Together with the amazing Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, we are keen to support the community beyond just fundraising”, stated Caroline Chrysdy, Director of Sales and Marketing of JW Marriott Surabaya.

Susanto, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia said, “This is not the first collaboration between JW Marriott Surabaya and Habitat for Humanity Indonesia. We appreciate the commitment of JW Marriott Surabaya for always supporting Habitat to solve the non-decent housing issues in Gresik. Through the Stay to Give program, Habitat hopes that the family provided with the help will achieve a better life.”
