Celebrating Milo Thornton: A Journey from Point Pleasant to Paratek Pharmaceuticals

A collective industry effort to fight poverty in Greater Philadelphia
Milo Thornton’s story is one of determination and growth. Born in Point Pleasant, WV, Milo is now a Finance Major at Bentley University with a concentration in Capital Markets and a minor in Cybersecurity. He’s currently the Finance and Accounting Intern at Paratek Pharmaceuticals in King of Prussia, PA.
Milo discovered Project Onramp through Bentley University 's career platform. "At first, I was extremely nervous as this is my first ‘real job’ experience," Milo shared. However, his apprehensions quickly dissipated as he experienced the collaborative and supportive environment at Paratek. "I have not met a single person who is not willing to help you out."
This internship has been eye-opening for Milo, especially as a Finance major who had not been exposed to the pharmaceutical sector. "Microbiology, Clinical/Nonclinical, and Medical Affairs are all departments I have interacted with," Milo noted. His exposure to these diverse departments has provided him with a holistic understanding of how different functions within a pharmaceutical company are interconnected.
"The best part of the internship is applying the concepts and topics I have learned in class to the real world, while learning something new every day," Milo explained. Seeing the impact of Paratek’s products on patients has also added a rewarding dimension to his work. "Being able to see the impact of our products on our patients makes my job feel much more rewarding."

Milo’s short-term goals include securing another financial-related internship in either the pharmaceutical or banking sector. Long-term, he aspires to a leadership role in finance. "Post-graduation, I want to be in a position where I am challenged to grow and learn," Milo shared. "In 10 years, I envision myself as a well-rounded leader within a finance-related position at either a major financial institution or a medical/pharma-related corporation."
Project Onramp has played a crucial role in reinforcing Milo’s professional goals and expanding his network. "Being able to network and connect with various leaders and executives in the industry has been eye-opening," Milo remarked. The experience has equipped him with a strong, well-rounded skill set and mindset that he will carry with him throughout his career.
