Celebrating Milestones

This month, I was able to attend my younger son’s USC college graduation ceremony. USC did a great job with their socially distance ceremonies, and though my son actually graduated last year, the ceremony made his milestone feel more “real.” I love going to graduation ceremonies – preschool, elementary school, high school, college! It is a great moment to reflect upon the closing of a life chapter and the start of the next. Especially when I attend high school and college graduations, I think back to my own path and think about who I was at those moments in my life. While I felt “ready” for the world, in reality, I wasn’t. I knew how to study, work hard, make friends, but I did not realize all the other elements required for career and life success. I do think about how much I could have benefited from mentors/advisors who could have helped me be more strategic about my career choices, be more cognizant about networking and building professional relationships, and could have helped/forced me to be more bold and take more risks. I think there is so much we can learn from leaders – their stories, their choices, their advice. I think all of us – early career professionals and those of us who have “been around the block” for awhile – can continuously learn, grow and be bold in what we want to achieve. I learn so much from the leaders we are profiling in our interviews.
