Celebrating Mentoring

There are 303 million registered users on Linked In, and behind us all are millions of mentors. The people who shaped our lives and helped us become who we are today. January is the month to celebrate them: it’s National Mentoring Month.

This month is always very special to us at Big Brothers Big Sisters because it gives us an opportunity to recognize all the ordinary people who step up to be extraordinary mentors in our program. In 2019, there were over 2,500 such people helping kids in South Texas get a leg up in challenging environments and difficult sets of circumstances.

Mentors can have extraordinary impacts on children. Think back to your childhood and chances are there was someone who changed your life with a few words or a simple action. Have you celebrated their impact?

This is the month to do it, and we have a few ideas for how:

  1. Sign up to be a mentor with us in South Texas or in your community
  2. Encourage someone you know to sign up to be a mentor. Send them this fun video about how fun and easy it can be.
  3. Attend a national mentoring month event such as our Mixer in San Antonio. There are events like this one all across the country.
  4. Make a sign that illustrates how a mentor impacted your life, or how you have impacted the life of someone else through mentoring and share it on social media with a National Mentoring month hashtag. #mentoringmatters #mentoringworks #WhoMentoredYou?

Start 2020 off right by making the time to make a difference.
