Every year since 1992, October 10th marks the “World Mental Health Day”, a recurrent opportunity to promote mental health advocacy and to talk about what needs to be done in support of people worldwide.
Over the years, the themes chosen by the World Federation for Mental Health have raised awareness about relevant mental health issues that were once ignored, and that today, - mainly due to this educational action - are a part of the conversation, gaining the dignity they deserve, and contributing to dispel the negativity and stigmas often associated to mental health.
The 2021 World Mental Health Day campaign tagline, “Mental health care for all: let’s make it a reality”, opens a window on what all of us – with or without pre-existing mental health conditions - have been facing over the past year.
As pointed out by the World Health Organization, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people’s mental health and overall well-being, disrupting mental health services at all levels and requiring greater efforts in order to provide mental health care to the population.
These efforts concern us all. At home, at school, at work, it is crucial that we collectively contribute to build an environment where everyone feel supported and can take the time for their own well-being and mental health.

We promote an open and inclusive culture about mental health at all levels across the whole agency, providing resources and tools to take care of ourselves and encourage conversations about self-care and wellbeing.
This year, to recognize and celebrate the World Mental Health Day, on October 8th our offices will remain closed worldwide.
Hopefully a day far from the office will allow everyone to truly switch off. We know one day might not seem much, but it can do a lot as an encouragement to take care of ourselves and constantly nurture our wellbeing.
