Celebrating the MBE success of a client

For over 45 years, Dr Richard Barrett has helped vulnerable people and families in the Daventry District, and South Northants.?Under his guidance, registered charity Daventry Contact has provided significant help for many individuals and their loved ones when they have been unable to furnish their homes.?It is his work that has earned him high praise and recognition from Buckingham Palace.

This year, Dr. Richard Barrett has been added to the Kings birthday honours list, and will receive an MBE for “services to the environment and to the community”.?This thoroughly deserved acknowledgement is testament to the many people he has helped.

Who are Daventry Contact?

?

Daventry Contact, founded by Dr. Richard Barrett, collect donated furniture which would otherwise have ended up in landfill, restore if necessary and deliver it to homes and sheltered accommodation across Northamptonshire.?Even before the current cost-of-living crisis befell the UK, there were families and individuals needing help furnishing their homes.

The charity recognises that poverty-fuelled families neither desire nor deserve to struggle in homes in which they cannot create even a modest amount of comfort.?They have helped those struggling due to low income, disability, domestic violence, homelessness, mental health, unemployment, and learning difficulties.

It is for this reason that Dr. Richard Barrett has been added to the honours list this year.

Dr. Barrett spoke to the Chronicle & Echo upon receiving news of his pending honours.?He described his award as “a great honour” and was quick to acknowledge and “honour all the present and past trustees, employees and volunteers who have contributed to the excellent work which is carried out within our community.”
