Celebrating the Many Paths of Women in Construction

Each year since 1998, National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) have increased visibility of valuable roles in construction during #WomeninConstructionWeek (WIC Week), which coincides with Women’s History Month and International Women's Day 2025 March 8.

Beazer Homes is joining the ‘Many Paths, One Mission’ theme, celebrating our employees’ unique career journeys, amplifying their voices, and recognizing their contributions to our company and the industry at large.

To honor 25 years of WIC Week, the Beazer Charity Foundation has granted $25,000 in scholarships to expand access for young women to pursue construction-related degrees and training programs to develop in-demand trade skills.

Women in the Lead

“Women have a place at the table, on the worksite, in the dirt, and everywhere in between,” says Tamra Voll, real estate attorney.

At Beazer, women are represented in virtually every area across the business, from corporate support roles to operational roles in every function. What’s more, women are represented among every level of management, including heading up many of the most business-critical functions such as land strategy, IT, marketing, sales, HR, accounting, audit, and more.

“There are women in all departments and fields thriving in their positions and encouraged to pursue whatever goals they have,” says Sydney Senesac, social media specialist. “I am especially proud of the women that serve on our senior leadership team, they are helping pave the way for women in construction.”


Building Your Own Path

“There are so many options available when considering the construction industry. The variety of roles accommodates a diverse set of skills and experience. If you love math, science, art, writing, people, or technology, there is a role that could be perfect for you. And that role could be your path to finding a meaningful and fulfilling career,” says Daniela Ferreira, customer advocate manager.

Some of the most successful Beazer team members took the scenic route to find their careers in homebuilding. Along the way, they picked up a diverse set of valuable skills such as research, customer service, project management, and sales. Unique interests, skills and experiences are not only welcome—they’re encouraged!

“Construction includes building your own pathways, so when you aren't sure where to go, create a new path just for you,” Tamra says, adding that her own path is a point of pride: as a first-generation college graduate, Tamra was the first in her family to build a professional career. “To have that career be in the legal field AND the construction industry is special to me.”

Since she entered the industry by joining Beazer nearly 5 years ago, Tamra says she’s always felt supported and encouraged to take on new challenges, particularly by her boss and mentor Nicole Kibert Basler, Assistant General Counsel.

Before Nicole became a lawyer, she earned an M.S. in Interdisciplinary Ecology, focusing on applied ecology. In her role, she combines her expertise in sustainable development and real estate law—an invaluable combination that helps build Beazer’s legacy of sustainability. “I felt really proud of myself when I have been able to add a unique element or twist that made a community better. For example, whenever I get a chance, I try to make our community covenants more sustainable and accessible. At the end of each project I get to work on, we will have a beautiful energy efficient community that the families living there are proud to call home.”

Supporting Women in Construction

Vanessa Rodriguez, land development manager in Houston, has been in the industry for 16 years. “The industry is changing, is well paid, and more welcoming to women,” she says. “Success for women in construction looks like having the capability to focus on work without a woman tax. Arriving to a place we feel safe and confident like men do. Where we are paid and professionally respected equally.”

Creating a safe and equitable workplace is just the start to ensuring women feel like they belong in construction. Mentors and advocates make all the difference by creating more inclusive cultures and offering support for talented employees to grow to their fullest potential.

Vanessa began her career as a civil engineer, looking up to influential women as her mentors. “I entered the industry with women being equivalent to men and in many cases the main pillars of the leadership,” she says. “I also give credit to Greg Coleman, my manager at Beazer, for recruiting and spending countless hours mentoring in land development.”

For Daniela, her sister is a source of inspiration, motivation and support. “As another woman in construction, we share our challenges and accomplishments with a unique understanding. We are able to support each other through our shared experiences, making us both stronger,” she says.

“We are seeing more and more women in the construction industry,” Daniela says. She’s hopeful that more young girls and women will learn about the diverse opportunities available and consider pursuing a rewarding career in construction.
