Celebrating major successes at Staffordshire's Household Waste Recycling Centres

Nick Bentley is the?Operations & Service Improvement Manager for Waste and Climate Change here at Staffordshire County Council. This week, Nick has shared a blog celebrating one year since we took over management of Staffordshires Household Waste Recycling Centres.

As the manager of Staffordshire's 14 Household Waste Recycling Centres, I am proud to announce that we are celebrating our one year anniversary since Staffordshire County Council took over their management.

Over the past year, we have achieved significant improvements to our services and invested in our sites and staff. We have received a record number of compliments from residents about our helpful staff and the site facilities. We have kitted out all of the HWRC site staff with smart new uniforms and PPE, updated the signage at the sites and declared all 14 sites as anti-idling zones to reduce air pollution at the sites and in the local area.

?In terms of waste management, we have recycled over 45,000 tonnes of waste, the same weight as the Titanic, and recovered energy from 40,000 tonnes of waste that could not be recycled by taking it to our state-of-the-art facility that burns waste and turns it into electricity that can power and transfers it to the national grid. We also sent just 1% of waste to landfill. We also brought in new bins and repaired existing bins so they are safer to use, in total spending £200k. We have also invested £50,000 into Burntwood to make improvements to the grounds and joined a partnership with Biffa as our haulage company to take our waste.

To celebrate our one year anniversary, we will be promoting our achievements and thanking our staff for their hard work .

We are proud of what we have achieved over the past year and are committed to making more improvements and providing the best possible service to residents. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to another successful year ahead.

How are you decarbonising your RCV's.. Great the waste is being manged well but what is being done to reduce carbon from transport. Have a look how Stockport County Council have adopted TRAILAR on there RCV's. Many more county councils adopting post April 23, on RCV and e-RCV. As a local resident it would be good to see initiatives being taken to getting towards net zero.

Well done to all involved in this. We at the Children's Air Ambulance are looking forward to working with you in 2023 to help divert textiles from landfill whilst supporting our critical lifesaving service.
