Celebrating Juneteenth

As Juneteenth approaches, I find myself reflecting deeply on its significance, both personally and professionally.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a powerful reminder of our resilience, triumphs, and the relentless pursuit of equality. It's not just a historical milestone; it’s a celebration of our strength and a call to continue the fight for justice.

Harriet Tubman, the "Moses of her people," epitomizes courage and determination. Her leadership in guiding enslaved individuals to freedom inspires me daily. In her honor, I strive to create safe, inclusive spaces in my work, ensuring Black voices are heard and valued.

As the founder and CEO of CultureShift HR and Black Places Equal Safe Spaces , I am dedicated to fostering environments where everyone feels safe and respected.

One of the most impactful books I've read in this journey is The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson . This powerful narrative of the Great Migration, where six million Black Americans fled the oppressive South for better lives in the North and West, resonates deeply with me.

It’s a story of struggle, resilience, and hope that provides essential context for understanding our current societal dynamics.

Another way for people to support the community is to patronize Black-owned businesses as well so be sure to include those recommendations in your email as well!?

You and your recommendations will be featured in our upcoming newsletters, amplifying voices and stories that need to be heard.

?

Let’s celebrate Juneteenth by educating ourselves, honoring those who came before us, and supporting the vibrant and dynamic Black community today. Happy Juneteenth!
