Celebrating International Women's Day
Today at Eco Brixs, we're celebrating International Women's Day and the work we do to empower women in Uganda,?with the aim of creating a more gender-equal world.
Within our work to tackle plastic pollution and create jobs, we prioritise the inclusion of marginalised communities in Uganda, including women. This is because women are often seen as 'homemakers', whose sole responsibility is to look after the family and raise children.?Therefore, we encourage them to collect plastic and earn an income through recycling, empowering them and helping them to become financially independent.
So for Internation Women's Day, we wanted to share some stories highlighting how recycling plastic is helping women in the Masaka community...
Regina
"Eco Brixs has helped me so much. I now know how to balance the books, receipting and accountability processes. My whole family are in a good situation now. We have electricity, food and treatment for the children when they are sick. I can now solve my personal problems."
- Regina, Eco Brixs Finance Officer

Sarah
Nabutto Sarah recently started collecting plastic for Eco Brixs. This allows her to earn enough income to put food on the table and pay her child's school fees. Plus, her entrepreneurial spirit means she is paying others to help her sort plastic, meaning they can all earn now by recycling.
Amina
"Eco Brixs has improved my livelihood and nurtured strength in me to work regardless of what naysayers say about collecting plastic waste. Collecting plastic has taught me financial management and given me the opportunity to be employed. I worry no more about how to eat. Becoming a Resource Recovery Agent is the best decision I have ever made by far."
- Amina Busigye, Resource Recovery Agent
To date, we've helped empower hundreds of women by giving them the opportunity to earn through recycling plastic. We're now aiming to expand our work to help more women in Uganda become financially independent.
Help us to empower women this International Women's Day and #EmbraceEquity.?Donate today and help more women to earn from recycling.
