Celebrating International Women's Day
In the last few days, I have been wondering how to celebrate and share my thoughts about International Women's Day. I have listened to many influential female voices over the years, so clearly I can not name them all; nevertheless, I do want to recognise some both from work and closer to home. As this is LinkedIn, I will start with work. A few years ago, when I joined Roche in Medical Affairs, I needed help, and that is when I started working with a very talented communicator and scientist?@Aree Cheshire. I was just texting with Aree a couple of days ago, and I was reminded of something she said that has guided me in how I work with so many people subsequently "How can I help you be successful?" - such a simple question I know, but shared success can really lead to exponential outcomes for all (you can listen to her new Podcast here in her new role as President of Lumanity). Three other women, those who I am working closest with today, are?Wendy Douglass, Merce Morral,?Daniela Ferrara and Joana Galvao. Navigating the complexities of how to utilise artificial intelligence to develop innovative medicines, and how to bring our long-acting drug device combination products to patients with blinding diseases, their energy, passion, scientific rigor and commitment?to patients, have truly been amazing, as has their care for our people. I really do not know where I, our teams, or our future medicines, would be without them and their leadership!
Saving the best for last is my wife Sonia, who occasionally?gets a mention as some of you will know! Sonia has moved country twice, brought our three boys up, and now is rapidly becoming what she also always wanted to be, an appreciated artist. Since I last shared, she has not only continued to grow her You Tube channel and taught a very successful virtual art course, but I am proud to say that her prints are now on sale in Europe, USA and even Brazil at Fy,?Artfully Walls,?Junique Art, and?Obrah. I have to say that knowing?her work sits on walls around the world giving people happiness is just a really great feeling!

So in closing, while I can not name every influential woman, I can certainly celebrate them, their impact on me, my family, and the work I am so passionate about of bringing new medicines to patients with blinding diseases.

8 个月I can wholeheartedly echo everything that Chris said. Working with these amazing women has been deeply inspiring and the honour of a lifetime. I am blessed to work for a team that recognises that diversity and inclusivity creates an evironment of mutual synergism like the arms of the multi specific antigen therapies we work on together. Congratulations on International Women’s Day. I look forward to continuing to watch your stars soar across the sky.
