Celebrating International Women’s Day: For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.

Welcome to GYMHA Global Newsletter - March Edition

Your chance to make a difference this International Women's Day

Dear Esteemed Members and Supporters,

March brings hope, resilience, and determination. This edition of the GYMHA Global Newsletter celebrates International Women’s Day, focusing on the theme: "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment." Our mission is to create an inclusive world where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive.

International Women’s Day (March 8) is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a powerful reminder of the progress we have made and the challenges that remain. As we Honor the achievements of women from all walks of life, we must also acknowledge the barriers that continue to hinder their advancement. From the boardrooms to the classrooms, from rural villages to urban centres, the fight for gender equality is a global endeavour that requires our united efforts.

In this issue, we delve into the myriad ways in which empowering women and girls translates to positive societal change. Research shows that when women are educated and empowered, their communities flourish. For instance, increasing women's participation in the workforce could add an astonishing $28 trillion to global GDP by 2025. Empowerment is not just a personal journey; it is a catalyst for economic, social, and environmental progress.

Moreover, we confront the pressing mental health challenges that disproportionately affect young women in today’s world. The mental health crisis among youth is alarming, with studies revealing that young women are more likely to experience anxiety and depression, exacerbated by societal pressures and digital exposure. In this edition, we explore practical strategies for navigating these challenges, reinforcing the importance of mental health awareness in fostering resilience and confidence among young women and girls.

Additionally, we are thrilled to highlight real-life examples of initiatives that are breaking barriers and promoting equality through mental health support. From community-led programs to innovative mobile applications like the SAFE LIFE Guide, we showcase how empowerment begins with awareness and accessibility.

We also share inspiring stories of women who have taken charge of their lives and careers, offering actionable strategies for building confidence and achieving success in the workplace. With insights from GYMHA Incorporated, this edition provides essential tools for young professionals navigating their career paths while prioritizing mental health.

As we celebrate the strength and spirit of women and girls, we invite you to join us in advocating for rights, equality, and empowerment. Let us champion the voices of those who have been silenced, support the ambitions of those who dare to dream, and commit ourselves to fostering environments where everyone can flourish.

This March, let us stand together in solidarity for ALL women and girls. Together, we can rewrite the narrative of empowerment, ensuring that it encompasses every individual across the globe.

With hope and determination,

Editor,

Celebrating International Women’s Day: A Tribute to All Women and Girls

By J. Ediae

Dear Women and Girls of the World,

On this International Women's Day, we at Global Youth Mental Health Awareness (GYMHA) Incorporated want to take a moment to celebrate you. Today, we stand united in recognizing your resilience, your strength, and your unwavering spirit. Your contributions to society, culture, and the world at large are immeasurable, and we are filled with gratitude for everything you do.

This year's theme, "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment," resonates deeply with the foundation of our mission. It serves as a powerful reminder that the fight for gender equality is not just a women’s issue; it is a human issue. According to UN Women, nearly 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, yet you continue to rise, advocate, and push for change. Your courage inspires us all to strive for a world where rights, equality, and empowerment are not just ideals, but the very fabric of our society.

We recognize that empowerment begins with education. According to UNESCO, if all girls completed primary education, there would be 20% fewer child marriages. You, the girls of today, are the leaders of tomorrow, and your potential knows no bounds. We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote access to education, mental health resources, and safe environments where every girl can thrive.

To the women who have paved the way for us, we express our deepest gratitude. From the trailblazers in science, politics, and the arts to the everyday heroes who nurture and uplift their communities, your legacies are the stepping stones for future generations. You remind us that strength comes in many forms, and that every step taken is a step towards a brighter, more equitable future.

Today, we also want to Honor the diversity of women’s experiences and the intersectionality that enriches our collective narrative. Whether you identify as a woman of colour, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, or any other identity that has been marginalized, your voice matters, and your stories are vital to the tapestry of our global community. It is imperative that we listen, learn, and lift each other up, ensuring that no one is left behind.

As we celebrate today, let us also reaffirm our commitment to mental health and well-being. According to the World Health Organization, mental health issues account for a significant portion of the burden of disease among women. Let’s advocate for better access to mental health resources, break the stigma surrounding mental health, and create supportive networks where women and girls can share their struggles and triumphs without fear.

To all the advocates, activists, and allies who stand with us in this quest for equality, thank you. Your unwavering support fuels the movement for change. Together, we can create a world where every woman and girl have the opportunity to realize her full potential, free from discrimination and fear.

On this International Women's Day, let us celebrate our achievements, acknowledge our challenges, and commit to a future where rights, equality, and empowerment are not just aspirations, but realities for all women and girls everywhere.

With heartfelt appreciation,

From all of us @

Limit Digital Usage for Good Mental Health

By Dr. Anjum Nazir Qureshi

Digital devices are an integral part of our lives. Mobile phones, laptops, and internet connection are no longer a luxury but a necessity. Shopping, games, learning, and entertainment are now available online. The excessive usage of the internet and digital devices for daily activities has become a major cause of rising mental health issues. Many complain about busy schedules and having less time for family and loved ones without realizing that online games, shopping, videos, and reels consume most of their daily hours. Similarly, we never miss a chance to blame these devices for spoiling our mental and emotional health and wasting our time. But are these devices responsible?

These devices have been made to make our lives comfortable. They have been made for us, and we have not been created for the Almighty to waste our precious time surfing the internet for no reason. A solution to this problem is controlling our usage of the internet and digital devices before they begin controlling us. Most of the online games are destructive. They have a target to be achieved that can be accomplished after breaking something or hurting someone.

How to cope with Pulling Down Syndrome

By Mary-Ann Ifeoma

How to cope with Pulling Down Syndrome, a metaphor for when friends bring you down or discourage you.

This negative behavior is prevalent in our society and is mostly exhibited by close friends, colleagues, or relatives. There are situations where people intentionally discredit your worth, your work, and your success stories. Most times it's borne out of unexplained hatred, jealousy, or low self-esteem. The victim begins to wonder if there's something they're doing that's not right. The problem is not you, my dear; the major problem lies within the hearts of the perpetrators of such bad behavior.

Here are some coping strategies to adopt when faced with such a situation.

?1. Communicate openly. Tell your friends that you can't tolerate such behaviors. They might be ignorant of its negative impacts on you.

??2. Distance yourself from such a circle of friends, especially if the negativity becomes overwhelming. You don't need such negative energy around you. You must learn to say no to negative conversations or activities that drains your energy.

3. Stay positive and focused. Don't let their negative remarks affect your sense of purpose or direction. Stay focused on your goals.

4. Surround yourself with people who add value to your life. Friends who support and uplift you.

5. Practice self-care. Engage in activities that make you happy; exercise, dancing, singing, and travelling.

6. Seek support from trusted friends, family, or a therapist.

7. Develop a thick skin.

Remember that pulling down syndrome isn't an actual medical condition but rather a colloquialism for negative behavior.

Prioritize your mental health. You deserve to be happy.

Empowering Women and Girls: A Global Perspective on International Women's Day

By J. Ediae

International Women's Day (IWD) is more than just a date on the calendar; it is a significant movement committed to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide. Celebrated on March 8 every year, this day offers an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, highlight ongoing challenges, and unite efforts to close gender gaps.

This blog will explore how empowerment fosters societal growth, analyze key areas of progress, and examine obstacles faced by women and girls globally. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of why gender equality is essential and how collective action can create meaningful change.

Why Empowering Women and Girls Matters

Gender equity is not just a social justice issue; it’s a pathway to global development. Data from sources such as UN Women shows that empowering women leads to improvements in education, economic stability, health outcomes, and reduced poverty. Here are a few undeniable reasons why empowering women and girls is indispensable:

  • Economic Growth: Studies estimate that closing gender gaps in the workforce could add $12 trillion to global GDP by 2025.
  • Healthier Communities: Women reinvest up to 90% of their income back into their families, compared to 30-40% for men. This translates to better access to education, healthcare, and improved well-being for communities.
  • Inclusive Decision-Making: When women are part of leadership, decision-making processes become more inclusive and effective.

Despite these clearly established benefits, disparities persist, demanding unified global action.

Breaking Barriers: How Global Youth Mental Health Awareness is Promoting Equality and Empowering Youth Around the World

By J. Ediae

The increasing attention to global youth mental health awareness has elevated our understanding of how mental well-being intertwines with equality, education, and empowerment. For years, mental health advocacy was shrouded in stigma, leaving many young individuals silently battling mental health challenges. Yet, today, we are seeing collective efforts from governments, NGOs, and grassroots initiatives breaking barriers and reshaping the narrative around youth mental health.

This blog explores how mental health awareness is fostering equality and empowering youth worldwide, backed by real-life examples and impactful initiatives. By doing so, it highlights the need for sustained global action to build a more inclusive and supportive society.

The Current Landscape of Youth Mental Health Awareness

The Mental Health Crisis Among Youth

Mental health issues are more prevalent among today's youth than many realize. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-29 globally. Furthermore, approximately 14% of the world’s adolescents live with a diagnosed mental health condition. These statistics illuminate the urgent need for greater global attention.

Cultural stigmas, economic disparities, and lack of mental health education often cause young people to suffer in silence. For example, in many low-income countries, mental health conditions are mistaken for weaknesses or spiritual afflictions, making it challenging for young individuals to seek help.

The global youth mental health crisis is not just a health issue—it is a social justice matter. When left unaddressed, unequal access to mental health resources perpetuates disparities between different socioeconomic, cultural, and gender groups.
