Celebrating International Women's Day at AESC UK
International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
Women have played a significant role in the history of AESC's UK gigafactory since the very start.
Advanced modern manufacturing plants like our battery plant are clean, quite environment's with lots of automation that are equally accessible to all our employees.
Production Operator Alison Cox joined AESC in July 2011. Throughout her 13 year career she was part of many milestones including the production of over 50 million battery cells.
Alison, who retired recently, joined the company when our first plant was still under construction, making her one of the trailblazers in the UK's electric vehicle battery industry:
"We were all learning to operate new machinery. Nobody knew anything about the technology, it was completely new to the UK. It was a brand new product and it is still today."

"I ended up working in manufacturing through a family connection who helped me apply for the job. I'd come from retail so it was quite a change but a good change. I do enjoy my job. I enjoy the every day challenges, there's always something different something to overcome working as a team. I've met loads of new people and we all get along really well on our shift."
Elena Westerman joined us through the AESC graduate scheme and is heavily involved in our commissioning and development of our new plant as a process engineer.
"It's really rewarding. No two days are the same and I've been given real responsibility from the outset. It's quite a demanding manufacturing environment and I've had that trust put in me and I've been able to give benefits to the company as a result. The fact that company's been willing to invest in me that's been and amazing experience so far and I'm looking forward to what challenges there may be in the future."
