Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023

Today, I am happy to celebrate International Women’s Day - an important day recognized for over 100 years and raises awareness to gender inequalities across economic, social, and political scopes. It is a time to honor and praise the accomplishments of women throughout history. It is also a time to advocate for the future of women and what changes we can make next.?
This year, the Commission on the Status of Women deemed that the theme for International Women’s Day in 2023 is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.” This brings awareness to the exclusion and negativity women have faced in the digital era and highlights the work women have done in the technology space.
My growth as a woman in the gaming industry that has been and still is male dominated, has been quite the journey. With over 18 years of gaming experience under my belt, I can still remember the pressure I felt stepping into this world. I knew I would have to make strides to be recognized in the field, so I let my passion for gaming and desire to make casual mobile gaming push me to where I am today.?
With this in mind, it is really important to me to empower other women in the industry, such as female designers and game developers. I am incredibly lucky to have found Ping Wang, my fellow co-founder of AviaGames. She and I have built an incredible team with over 40% of our team being smart and creative women. Additionally, 70% of AviaGames’ user base are female players and 50% of Pocket7Games’ Facebook followers are also female.
I will be diving deeper into my journey in the gaming industry at the Women in Games Careers, Development & Networking Expo on March 9th. I am so lucky to have this opportunity to speak on ways companies can do more for women in the field and aid in their progression towards bigger roles. We continue to develop this concept into our work at AviaGames and I hope to be a role model for other companies to do the same.?

It is an honor to have such an intellectual group of women on our team and we hope to inspire women of the future who want to step into the tech and gaming world. It can be an extremely difficult field to break into with the current gender biases and roadblocks that exist to deter women from trying to progress from their current position. International Women’s Day serves as a reminder for us all to take action and demand for changes to be made.
In fact, in celebration of today, I am thrilled to announce our partnership with Women Who Code, “an international nonprofit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers.” Founded in 2011, their goal is to give women the tools they need to succeed in the tech space and be a part of a community of women working towards the same aspirations. They have excellent programs in place, such as their coding materials, job boards, scholarship opportunities, and more!

I hope you will join me in celebrating women today as well as the rest of this month, and continue to advocate for women in your life.
