Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day with Doville Vilimaite at SIG

As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on the remarkable journey of Dovile Vilimaite, Operator 2 at Tilburg plant, SIG

1.??????? Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do at SIG

Hello! My name is Dovile, and I am 22 years old. I moved from Lithuania to Tilburg when I was 19. In 2021, I joined SIG as a clean-room operator, working across three different shifts. My role involved a lot of hands-on tasks, and I quickly moved up to oversee operations, providing assistance and stepping in as needed. My enthusiasm for tackling new challenges led me to accept a growth opportunity within the company.

2.??????? What experiences have you made as a woman in engineering?

Growing up, I was always around machinery, helping my father with cars, motorbikes, and tractors. This hands-on experience from a young age sparked my interest in engineering. The opportunity to work with SIG was particularly appealing because it promised more freedom, increased challenges, and enhanced communication with other colleagues. These aspects motivated me to embrace this new challenge enthusiastically.

3.??????? How do mentorship and support networks within engineering help professionals, particularly women, advance in their careers? Can you share examples of effective support you've seen or received?

In my experience, the pivotal role of mentorship and support networks in advancing one's career, especially for women in engineering, cannot be overstated. The initial trust and opportunity given to me were crucial. I seized it by showing keen interest. This proactive approach led to natural mentorship opportunities. Asking both simple and complex questions about work and techniques always yielded detailed explanations, enriching my learning and expertise.

4.??????? And finally, could you share a personal quote or mantra that inspires you in your work?

A few principles guide me in my work:

  • "Work smart, not hard." This encourages me to find efficient solutions.
  • "If you want to achieve something, you have to be open to it and work for it." This reminds me of the importance of readiness and active effort.
  • "If you want to get money, you have to work for it." It's a straightforward reminder of the relationship between effort and reward.

These principles not only inspire me daily but also drive my professional development within the engineering field.
