Celebrating International Volunteer Day with Lane Four's Commitment to Community!

At Lane Four, we believe in giving back and fostering meaningful connections within our community. Last week, our dedicated team volunteered their time to participate in the St. James Town Community Service Provider Network Leadership Forum, a transformative event aimed at deepening collaborations and extending the reach of community-driven organizations.

The 2023 SJT Service Provider Network Leadership Forum was a dynamic platform for our team to engage in three insightful group discussions. The first discussion focused on an asset mapping exercise, identifying places of connection, joy, and healing in the SJT neighbourhood, grounding community networks for place-based initiatives aligned with neighbourhood priorities outlined in the SJT Social Charter (2019).

The second and third discussions delved into Community Wealth Building (CWB) strategies, emphasizing Local and Equitable Hiring, Local Purchasing, and Place-based Investing. Within small discussion groups, we explored ways to decrease health and wealth disparities, leveraging everyday business practices and organizational resources to support broad-based and democratic ownership over community assets.

Deepening our collaboration and impact were key themes throughout the morning, as we recognized the diverse ways communities organize; highlighting the importance of dignifying expertise, labour, infrastructure, and assets within often undervalued communities.

For Lane Four, this forum was an opportunity to get inspired and align with like-minded organizations, learn from SJT leaders, and foster innovative CWB collaborations. It's more than a commitment; it's a cultural shift towards seeing non-clinical everyday business practices as opportunities to drive community wellness and economic prosperity.
