Celebrating International Intern's Day
Today is International Intern’s Day, and we would like to take a moment to thank our interns (both past and present) for their contributions and celebrate their achievements!
Here, we interview some of our team members about their internship experiences at FCT. We are very pleased to have them on our team!
?
Igor Campos, Process Engineer
What are you currently studying (or did you study)?
I’m a Chemical Engineer. I graduated in November 2020. I’ve been taking a graduate course in Process Engineering.
What attracted you to an internship with FCT?
I’ve always been interested in process engineering and when I had the opportunity to do an interview with Pedro Ladeira, I knew I was choosing the right path.
How would you describe your experience / what was a highlight?
It’s been an amazing experience so far. I worked as an Intern from March 2019 to November 2020. After that, I was blessed with an opportunity to join as a Process Engineer and have been continuously learning so much. Since joining as an Intern, we’ve done a lot of big projects, lots and lots of burners commissioned and thankfully, lots of happy clients and new friends made along the way.
Our projects regarding pelletizing kiln combustion systems here in Brazil are absolutely the biggest challenge and highlight of my journey in FCT. I’ve learned a lot about different areas, worked with amazing people and helped to start 6 kilns with improved and safer combustion systems. With even more projects in the making!
What is your current role within the company?
I’m a Process Engineer. My job as of late is mainly focused on helping different areas in our multidisciplinary projects here in Brazil. I assist with instrumentation and equipment purchases, help with system functional descriptions, keep up with equipment manufacturing, assist with engineering documentation, calculations, and a lot of other stuff.
Ana Buzatti, Process Engineer
My name is Ana Buzatti, I am a chemical engineer and I am currently doing an MBA in project management. ?
My first experience at FCT was in 2019. After doing an internship in the cement industry I became fascinated by combustion processes. My internship at FCT was an opportunity to learn more about this topic. After 6 months as an intern I was hired, and since then my experience at FCT has been great. The work is very challenging and rewarding. Every day I learn more from the challenges we face in the projects and from the excellent team I work with. ?
The highlight of my time working at FCT was working with Vale’s projects. The projects began shortly after I was hired and since then I have been growing alongside the projects. I followed the entire evolution of the projects, and it is very gratifying to see the plants working very well with the systems I helped design and commission.?
Currently, I am working at FCT as a Process Engineer.?
Alice Ferreira, Engineering Trainee
My name is Alice, I am a Chemical Engineering student and in May 2022 I had the opportunity to join FCT as an intern.
I saw FCT as a great opportunity to understand and get to know the combustion process up close and see the concepts learned during college in practice.
FCT offered me a visit to one of their customers and it was time to see the burners in operation up close, I believe this was the highlight of my experience so far. Since then I have acquired more and more knowledge, not only in the area of processes but also purchasing, suppliers, documentation, among others.
In May of this year (2023) I gained another opportunity when?I?was?hired, and today I continue as an engineering trainee.

I will graduate in December 2023 and I intend to continue doing so, one step at a time!!
Ghyslain Irenge, Process Engineer
What are you currently studying (or did you study)?
I completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) in 2021.?
What attracted you to an internship with FCT?
I was interested in the types of projects FCT does. Few companies do end to end engineering projects, R&D and consulting work. I thought it would be a good learning experience for someone coming out of university.
How would you describe your experience / what was a highlight?
The highlight of my experience was getting to work with and learn from the engineering team here in the Adelaide office. I had the chance to work on burner design testing, site surveys, and some engineering design with the senior engineers. This allowed me to put the theory I learnt at university into practice.
What is your current role within the company?
I’m currently working in the project execution team whilst assisting the process engineering team to deliver the projects that we have on hand. I’ve also had a chance to do site visits and some R&D work in my current role.
Paulo Chaves, Engineering Trainee
What are you currently studying (or did you study)??
When I started my journey at FCT, I was just finishing my studies, and now, I’m a bachelor in Electrical Engineering.?
What attracted you to an internship with FCT??
Well, I live in a region of Brazil where there are not many opportunities to work on projects of this kind and certainly not on projects as big as those carried out by FCT. Therefore, remote work offers me opportunities that I could never have imagined before.?
How would you describe your experience / what was a highlight??
My experience so far has been a blast! (no pun intended).?
I am surrounded by very capable people in their respective fields of knowledge and it has been a very edifying experience working side by side with them, obtaining a fraction of their knowledge. My highlight as an FCT intern was the implementation of the first project I was involved in. I will never forget the feeling when I saw the photos of the project and thought to myself, “I am a part of this”.?
What is your current role within the company??
I am now working as a trainee in a team of electrical engineers. As in my internship, I’m still learning a lot every day. But now I have much more responsibility, am actively involved in decisions that affect the project and effectively making changes.?
