Celebrating International Family Day, ECCE Policy Updates, Impact Stories & More EduInsights

Established by the UN General Assembly in 1993, this day serves as a platform to raise awareness about family-related issues and enhance understanding of the social, economic, and demographic factors that impact families worldwide. For us, it also means highlighting the importance of family involvement in children's education and how caregivers can help their children.?

Empowering parents and caregivers to become educators at home is one of the pillars of our theory of change. We achieve this by increasing their AIM: awareness of the importance of early childhood education, information in the form of bite-sized audio and visual educational lessons that they can practice at home with their children, and motivation that comes from peer effects in the WhatsApp groups we create and the digital medals and recognition we send. Our efforts have also increased the time parents spend with their children helping strengthen bonds.

"I spend a good amount of time on E-Pathshala (Rocket Learning's Digital WhatsApp Classroom) with my child," said Naveen, father of a five-year-old enrolled in our cohort. "It's beneficial for both of us. It has helped my child identify objects and colors and practice English, Hindi, and Math," he said.?
"One of these days, my child took the initiative to learn a poem by themselves and started teaching me!"

Family involvement enhances communication and collaboration between parents, caregivers, and educators.?The communication channel between the Anganwadi worker and parents allows for a deeper understanding of a child's unique strengths, interests, and challenges, enabling tailored approaches to their learning.?

"A lot of parents come to the parent-teacher meetings at school. But some parents cannot come because they are daily-wage labourers and might lose out on their day's income," Principal Priti Mukherjee at Trilokpuri School told Rocket Learning.?
"So, these WhatsApp groups help us communicate with those parents. Other parents also share their problems and concerns with us. I also find it a great medium to express my thoughts," she added.?

This month we were privileged to support the Ministry of Women & Child Development and Child Development's (WCD) "Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (Education Along with Nutrition)" launch in our capacity as a National Early Childhood Care & Education Taskforce Member. Hon'ble Union Minister, WCD, Smt. Smriti Irani made several announcements during the event, including launching a three-day training for the country's 1.33 million Anganwadis (daycare centre workers) to become skilled preschool educators. She also reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the holistic development of all children under six.
