Celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science

??♀?????????????Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science!

At AVOCarbon, we believe representation matters. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate women like? Christine Lietard , Head Manager of R&D, who continue to advocate for young women to pursue careers in STEM.

We talked to Christine and asked about her professional journey, skills, and how we can increase women’s participation in STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Introduce yourself: I am Christine Lietard and I oversee Research & Development at AVOCarbon Group.

How long have you been with AVOCarbon?

Since the beginning ?? and formerly at Carbone Lorraine for 20 years.

Can you describe your function at AVOCarbon?

The goal of R&D is to reach customer satisfaction by providing the right product corresponding to the expectations.

First, to understand the needs and the market in which we find ourselves, second, to use the resources and know how to develop a product that will meet all (or more) the functions of the application.

What skills do you consider vital in your career?

  • Meet people, source of wealth and fulfillment
  • Be respectful and cooperative
  • Solicit job opportunities

The proportion of women in STEM jobs, and especially in high-skilled jobs, is low. The gender gap is already starting in higher education. According to UNESCO, only 35% of students enrolled in STEM-related fields of study are women.

Working in STEM, for generations, is a job for men, what do you think about that?

It is changing, too slowly but people mindset is evolving.

I am personally against quota of employment. Human qualities and competence are the only skills necessary to access to high level positions.

How do you define success?

Success comes with work: never stop trying, do your best and efforts will pay.

Advice/es for women and girls working in STEM:

  • Build a community of other women in STEM who can support you, uplift you, and laugh with you
  • Allow yourself to feel anger, sadness, or other emotions that arise gender inequality and do not minimize your own feelings or experiences
  • Find mentors that can advise you and relate to your struggles
  • Look for inclusive environments, if possible
  • Build your self-confidence and practice advocating passionately for yourself

Conclusion:

Winston Churchill:???

“Success is being able to move from failure to failure without losing one’s enthusiasm “

Christine is a leading example for women who have the skills and passion to work in STEM. We are proud to have her as a manager.
