?? Celebrating Innovation in the Japanese Startup Ecosystem ??

We’re excited to share highlights from the Workshop for Quantum Startups in Japan, co-hosted by the 美国芝加哥大学 , Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution(Q-STAR) , and Tohoku University . At this event, attended by our Summer 2024 Intern Oliver Kondo S. , we learned about the Duality program, the first U.S. accelerator exclusively focused on innovative quantum startups. The program aims to integrate Japan’s quantum potential with Chicago’s world-class ecosystem.

Karen Kerr , Managing Director @ Exposition Ventures & Mentor @ Duality Accelerator

Karen talked about the Duality programme, which accelerates quantum tech startups by connecting them to a global network and providing full-spectrum support. Shared also her experience as a VC at Exposition Ventures, discussing how they invest in technology impacting the manufacturing value chain and how venture capitalists evaluate investments in quantum technology.

Pranav Gokhale , VP of Technology @ Infleqtion

Pranav shared his journey from founding super.tech to its acquisition by ColdQuantum. He discussed various applications of quantum technology. His tips for startups were to leverage university IP, establish equity early, embrace international markets, and recognize quantum tech’s varying timescales.

Sean Sullivan , CTO & Co-founder @ memQ

Sean discussed the challenges and opportunities of building a quantum hardware startup, emphasizing the need for R&D, manufacturing, and ecosystem support. He emphasized how to decide when to take the leap: Be passionate about the applications, believe in the technology, collaborate with the right team, confirm there’s a market, and ensure there’s a path to scale. If all these criteria are met, then go for it.

Ricky Y. , COO @ qBraid

Ricky shared the ups and downs of startup life and the importance of building relationships early. He emphasized having a higher purpose driven by a passion for quantum technology.

Masaru Nagura , CIC Director

Nagura-san highlighted the growth of Japanese startups, noting increased government attention, enhanced funding provisions, and a surge in early-phase startups. He shared insights from the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024, emphasizing the rise of VC investments and the importance of open innovation.

The recent surge in startups highlights the growth of Japan’s ecosystem, with more support from various stakeholders. Entrepreneurs must find the appropriate support to fit their business needs, leveraging programs like Duality to navigate the complexities of the quantum tech landscape. We are excited about the future of quantum information startups and thrilled to see these insights driving the Japanese quantum startup ecosystem forward!?

量子テクノロジー分野のスタートアップをグローバルネットワークにつなぎ、全面的なサポートを提供するDualityプログラムについて紹介していただきました。また、Exposition Venturesのベンチャーキャピタルとしての経験も紹介し、製造業のバリューチェーンに影響を与えるテクノロジーへの投資方法や、ベンチャーキャピタルが量子テクノロジーへの投資をどのように評価するかについても語ってもらいました。

Super.techの設立からColdQuantumによる買収までの道のりを紹介していただき、量子技術の様々な応用について議論しました。スタートアップ企業へのアドバイスとして、大学の知財を活用すること、早期に資本を確立し、国際市場を受け入れ、量子技術のさまざまな時間軸を認識することを挙げました。

ショーンは量子ハードウェアの新興企業を立ち上げる際の課題と機会について議論し、研究開発、製造、エコシステムのサポートの必要性を強調しました。技術のアプリケーションに対し情熱を持ち、技術を信じ、適切なチームと協力し、市場があることを確認し、スケールする道があること、これらの基準がすべて満たされればスタートアップに挑戦すべきだと言います。

名倉氏は、日本のスタートアップの成長を強調し、政府の注目の高まり、資金提供の強化、初期段階のスタートアップの急増を指摘しました。グローバル?スタートアップ?エコシステム?レポート2024からの洞察を紹介し、VC投資の増加とオープン?イノベーションの重要性を述べました。
