Happy 78th Independence Day, Indonesia!
As I watch the ceremony commemorating the Independence day, I have a mixed feeling. On one hand, it's the second last Independence day to celebrate with Bapak Jokowi as an active Indonesian president. On the other, a sense of uncertainty as who will be our next president.
Looking back at the two terms Bapak Jokowi has served, the accomplishments he had achieved was astounding. One example that had demonstrated this fact is from the country's resilience against the economic impact of COVID and the global economic slow down.
Of course, no one is perfect. However, Bapak Jokowi's successful accomplishments have far outweighed his failures. Thank you for your service, Bapak President!
I hope the next president to at least be able to continue all the good things that Bapak Jokowi will leave off. It will be better if the new president can improve on what has been done. However, at the bare minimum, I will be very contented if the new president can continue all the positive things that Bapak Jokowi will leave when his term ends next year.
The worst that could happen is if the new president undo all the good things that had been done and reverse back to business as usual pre Bapak Jokowi's era. "Amid-amid" (Indonesian expression for "knock on wood"), Let's hope and pray that this will not happen.Regardless of the future, as an Indonesian, let us take this moment as citizens to resolve to make our country even better!
